307 Tasting Notes
One tsp literally lasted me all day long.
Started the day with a weak brew- it’s rare I have the time, or the patience to brew before running out the door. 2.5min at 195, and over a few cubes of ice into a thermos for the drive to work. Admittedly I only cheat by cooling this way because my drive usually isn’t more than 25 mins. This cup was fragrant, and the base was smooth, even diluted as it was.
It was the cup after work that showed the loveliness of this tea in full flavor profile. The bermagot didn’t overwhelm the base and the base didn’t become yucky and bitter even after a 3-4 min brew. Admittedly I didn’t use new leaves, but there was still plenty of flavor to be had.
I only ordered a sample of this one but don’t know if I’ll put it on my repurchase list yet. It was good, but not overwhelmingly yummy. Does one put samples into the Cupboard?
Hmmm Chocolate. It’s ironic to me that I now have a chocolate tea, I’m not a big chocolate eater, unless it’s dark chocolate. Milk is simply too sweet and too rich.
I was not impressed by this tea the first time I steeped it at 205F for three minutes. I got the chocolate smell, but something about the cup was just extremely offputting.
This time was much much nicer. I steeped it lower, at 195 and only for 2.5min. The chocolate aroma came through really well, as well as more subtle notes that I didn’t get at all the first time around. I’m glad the rose didn’t come through as strongly as I feared it would. I tend to dislike rose fragrance, but it was only nicely and subtly floral.
The black base was fair, a nice smooth cup, and not too robust as to overpower the aroma.
It was like drinking chocolate, except without the bitterness of cocoa powder or the heavy sweetness that tend to steer me away from drinking hot chocolate. Just beautiful aroma with the taste of a nice tea.

Preparation
I didn’t think this one had a strong caffeine content, but I guess I was proven wrong! Or maybe I just was pushing it too hard by drinking it last night at 11pm. Made a large pot, had a few cups at my parents’ house, then decanted the rest into a bottle to take with me. Waste not, want not!
It certainly kept me awake throughout the drive back to my house. And then up to maybe four in the morning. Ahh, if only I had president’s day off like my sisters do. Woke up late, and dragged the rest of the bottle with me to work. Tea at work that isn’t Liptons/Bigolow= not a bad day. It doesn’t taste so much like oolong when it’s cool, more of just good tea mouth feel, probably because I couldn’t smell it much.
Great tasting oolong tea bags. My parents came home from LA with a few of these boxes one year and put them to the side for Lunar New Year gifts. We kept two boxes for ourselves and I kind of wish we had kept all of them. One bag is more than enough for a large tea pot, and even two to three steepings if you pull it out inbetween. I always prepare this one when the relatives come over and more than once have been asked about it.
