307 Tasting Notes
I picked up some barley tea while I was in a Hmart earlier this week. The teabags are huge!! But from my research you really need to steep alot at a time, so I’m guessing they’re single serving. It was roasted, grainy goodness, but I don’t think it’s a tea that I can drink while I’m doing the fasting portion of IF, phooey.
Today is a super duper busy day, I have my grandmother’s death anniversary to attend, a musical show, and then a red eye flight across the country. But tomorrow I shall be in the ‘happiest place on earth’ so hopefully I won’t be too dead. Caffeine to the rescue!
I’ve been drinking so much of this tea that in the past 3 months I’ve gotten through a good amount of my initial 3oz. If you know me and the sheer amount of teas I’ve accumulated since I’ve started on steepster, that’s pretty unprecedented. For my birthday I got myself the 16oz bag. Tehehe
Is it the best tea ever? No
Is it a good daily drinker? Yes
Is it cheap? Yes
Will I get sick of it before I ever finish 16oz? Maybe.
I just got my first box! I was really curious for awhile, after seeing ads on instagram and different youtube videos. Haha, I tried to an unboxing video on it, and discovered that I have no stamina for talking for long periods of time, and also no idea how to project my voice, look at the camera or just talk into thin air. In short I’m a terrible orator, I haven’t decided if I actually want to upload it yet.
My first box:
Pumpkin spice Black by Davidsons Organics
Organic Assam by Mana teas
Calm by TeaPigs
Organic Chinese White by Made of Tea
I’m really only excited by the Calm tea, but I’ll try the other ones, I guess.
I’m really liking the muslin/paper tea bags they give you with loose leaf teas. I’ll use my gravity steeper at home, but they’ll be good for travel, much appreciated.
Welcome to the tea-fam! If you ever post your unboxing vid, we’d love to see it. If you ever have any questions please email us at [email protected]

I just bought myself an insulated teapot because I miss the teapot experience. The teapot is double walled stainless steel, but the spout and the cap are connected to the outer layer, thus the whole teapot still got quite hot to the touch, not as good insulation as a big thermos. But still fun to keep pouring myself small cups.
I drank through half the pot before I was sleepy enough to sleep, and today I just added more hot water to warm it back up. I’m really finding the taste of this one quite comforting lately, although I don’t use it as a sleep aid often, I probably should. The spearmint is what’s most noticeable, but I need to do a side by side with Tazo Calm which used to be my go to sleepy aid.
Preparation
16oz to one teabag, 195f, i didn’t take the bag out. I don’t mind this, but I did leave it to cool significantly before indulging. The maple scent is strong but only adds a touch of sweetness. The ginger is not too spicy, but is present. I would not sweeten this tea, but I will drink it again.
Preparation
Yum! But sweet, almost too sweet… Definitely (for me) more of a dessert tea than an all day sipper, I finished the thermos full I had, but I’ll have to reconsider keeping that in the stash for day-drinking :) The inside of the bag is also sticky, which is weird and a little gross.
Preparation
I wrote a note, and then the page refreshed and it disappeared, NOOOOO…
Anyways, the gist was that this tea is yum yum yum! It’s a wonder it took me so long to try a hazelnut tea considering how much I like hazelnut coffee creamer and hazelnut chocolates. It’s a sweet smelling tea, but not so sweet as I can’t handle more than a mug of this, I totally sipped on this all day, two days this week.
1tsp/16oz/ 200*F x 4 into a big Thermos and decanted from there.
