Teaware lust?
I WOULD say that y’all were a bad influence, but lightning would probably strike me if I did that. I have to say – you have excellent taste in teaware…
I’ve been obsessed over filigree podstakannik (Russian tea glass holders) sets ever since watching Anna Karenina last month. I’m also in love/lust with danish teapots, skull and crown jubilee tea sets and geometric tea cups on etsy. So gorgeous. So expensive.
I have the same feelings about podstakanniks, but I have yet to find a set (or even one) with their matching glasses for a price I like.
AJ the prices I’ve seen are a bit ridiculous. Especially for just the holders with out the glass. I think one day when I can afford it I’d love to commission a set, because if I’m going to pay that kind of money for a set I’d rather have it custom made.
marzipan These!!!:

Aren’t they gorgeous?!?
Oh I see, Danish Design. I had asked my husband about Danish teapots this morning (He is a Dane) and he said the only sort of famous one he could think of was the Madame Blue – which is from the 1930s or so. But now this makes sense, I love those.
This one from David’s reminds me of those. And it’s on sale!

marzipan sorry, I should have clarified that meant danish design. The ones I posted were manufactured in Denmark so I considered them danish. I’ve never heard of Madam Blue’s. I’ll have to google those. The last one’s my favorite. I usually don’t like floral designs but the shape and handle are so minimalist and sleek. I just adore it.
Cameron B ohh, don’t tempt me! I already had to ban myself from buying new tea anything and this deal looks tempting enough for me break my ban in day one!
Amaryllis Wow, how did I miss your post. Yeah. Most of what I see online are old antique sets. Explains the price and rarity. But yeah, on the rare chance I find a reasonably-priced holder without the glass, it’s putting to chance you ever finding a glass that actually fits it (well enough not to rattle around noisily every time you try to drink).
AJ I agree. My biggest fear about these things is that the glass would slip out altogether while drinking and spill hot tea all over whoever’s holding it. I’ve had something similar happen to me with tea once and it’s terrible. Burned my whole chest. ouch That’s why I see commissioning a set around pre chosen glassware set as a better alternative. There’s also the added benefit of making your own custom design for them.
Silly, but this is the most expensive tea-related thing I’ve ever wanted http://www.ebay.com/itm/Disney-resort-limited-Beauty-and-the-Beast-Mrs-Pot-and-Chip-Tea-cup-set-/261487149400?pt=TV_Movie_Character_Toys_US&hash=item3ce1d94158
Ha! That was my first thought too! They should have designed a “chip” into him but still be drinkable.
I’ve been eyeing Moroccan teapots and cups lately, which is especially silly considering I don’t even like Moroccan tea. But they’re just soooo pretty.

Oh my word, I didn’t need to see this! My obsession is bad enough! Adding these to my dream list (Pinterest)
I’ve never had Moroccan tea. Fir some reason I forget it even exists. I have to look that up now.
Another thing I constantly eye are russian samovars and turkish teacups. I’ve got an Asia imports store that caries samovars for about $200.
I like Turkish tea cups as well. Really I like the Turkish ones and the straighter sided ones found in India and from my experience North Africa, and other places. I like the transfer of warmth glass gives. Some of the glasses are really beautiful, and I tend to associate them with drinking tea socially. I have a couple larger ones from Turkey and I got some smaller ones at a new for me Halal shop. Samovars can be really beautiful.
I’m a disaster for falling in love with mugs I DO NOT NEED. I have enough mugs to provide tea to my entire neighbourhood, but that doesn’t stop me. Locally made pottery is a special weakness, one which I can rarely afford so rarely indulge but I sure do drool.
Oh, I have a massive pottery weakness. Craft fairs were a horrible thing back when I went frequently. :)
I have an acquaintance that not only makes her pottery local but also sources her CLAY itself locally! And it is so gorgeous how can I resist?!
I kinda love this one too. http://tinyurl.com/mso6pva
But I can’t make myself pay that much since I already have more than one gaiwan.
Another fun site for teaware browsing is this one:

They have an interesting mix of new and antiquities.
I have enough teapots and teacups for a small army. I also collect vintage/antique teacups. Every time I travel somewhere I come back with more….It is OUT OF CONTROL! :)
I’ve been lusting after things from the Franz Porcelain collection. I’ve seen them in a tea shop and have wanted them ever since.
They are only in my dreams.
