Tea Buying Hiatus Support Group
How’s everyone doing with their hiatus? Hopefully well! Or at the least, I hope you are shame/guilt free if you did slip up – Lord knows I slipped up a lot in March. I think I will henceforth refer to this past March as The Tea Hoarding Debacle of 2013… seriously. It was bad.
Luckily I seem to be recovering. =P
I’m on day 26! I can’t even believe that… this month flew by, I guess. I’ve been pretty good about avoiding the sales threads and the 52Teas updates. No reason to torture myself. Hopefully I can keep this going while I continue to sip down and send out my out of control tea stash!

I probably should unsubscribe from all the tempting threads, but there are a few things I would have been upset about missing out on (such as Verdant’s intro sampler). I just need to be stronger! It’s not the number of teas that I’m worried about – but the money I spend. I guess as long as I cut down that’s a start!
Also, I’ll be back under 100 teas by next week! I’m pretty sure of that.

Yeah, sometimes I look and I’m like “darn it! I missed out!”, which stinks. But for the most part I can reconcile myself by looking at my bank account. Haha.
Cutting down is a start. At least it’s something, right? =) Baby steps!
Being under 100 teas is a good plan! Good luck! I’m working on sipdowns right now to get through samples I have sitting around. I’m hoping to get down to 90 or so teas.
Baby steps indeed! I’m learning to not freak out about every sale or deal which is a good thing. And maybe I’ll make it through May with just one purchase. :) (Of course with just one, I’ll obsess over it, but that’s still fun)
Yeah, same here. I’m learning to let them go (no matter how painful that can be, at times – I really wanted to go for the American Tea Room sale…). I wish you luck in keeping with one purchase! Seems doable!
I avoid the sales, for now. Even when I read about them, I’m reminding myself that there will be another on in a few weeks, or whatever. Emily, my hats off to you!! The rest of us can only aspire to the amount of clean time you have! ;)
My current sipdown goal is 200, I’m at 241 one now.
OH, by the way, just for the record I think we should NOT count TOMC memberships as relapses!! Does anyone want to second that motion, or say ‘Ay’?
Buying Haitus FAIL! I’ve been putting off ordering more Autumn Harvest Laoshan Green from Verdant and now it is sold out weeps :(
I’m joining in. I haven’t bought any tea since April 19. But I’ve been holding on to money in my paypal account for just in case. I’m hoping to be able to make it a month and then see how far I got with that amount!
As of today I am on hiatus. For at least this month. My tea stash is really out of control and I need to save money. I’m on a budget living here in NYC and have a large event to go to at the end of the month so I need to be good. After that I’ll see what the deal is, whether I need to hold of some more or if I can allow myself again.
I think I’m gonna get back into the trading thread, though, instead. I made an insane purchase from Upton the other month and have waaaay more than I need of some things, so I’m gonna see about doing that instead of purchasing.
But yeah, I’m cutting myself off the buying for at least this month… And it’s hard… I’m now in NYC where I can actually go in-person to tea shops (I just hit Harney & Sons earlier this week). I must behave.
Have you heard of Alice’s Tea Cup yet? I visited their 64th street location once and would like to go there again.
Alice’s Tea Cup is so fun! It’s dangerous that it’s in walking distance from where I work!
I feel I could be getting sucked into a buying frenzy. I put in a Verdant and Upton order recently that I thought would keep me cool for awhile.
However, Mandala tea has a sale and there’s 2 things I want, that I didn’t get with my last order. I really want to buy a big bundle of tuocha off ebay. I’m overdue for a Butiki order with a list of new stuff I want. Ditto with Steep City having teas I want too.

But uggggggggg!!!! Sheng 2012 cake, Peppermint patty and Choco Honeyberry tea!!!!
Mandala’s sale is KILLING me right now. I promised myself I would not buy more Mandala teas until the Special Dark pu’er comes out but they have my favorite for sale…so I’m a mess. Remind me not to look at anymore sales.
oh man. must. not. look. hold out until june. justify that by holding off tasting the samples grace sent me. lol resist!
I had an order in the shopping cart for Mandala, then found out they don’t ship internationally!!?? Shrug, I guess I don’t get tea from them. Is easier not to buy when they won’t ship it to you. LOL
boooooo although i have a tea mule so this is less of a hindrance to me but good to know lol
I think they do ship internationally. You just have to contact Garret with your order and pay through Paypal. That doesn’t help not buying any tea, does it? lol
I know on their shipping info page it says “We do not ship internationally at this time.” and when you try to check out the only country you can choose for shipping info is USA. I couldn’t place an order.
I just spent the last 15 minutes loitering on the Mandala site. I started filling a shopping cart…then I closed the page.

Pretty much the same here. The Bu Lang Gong Ting is on sale—it’s my favorite. I keep going to the site and staring at it. I think I need to put the parental lock back on. I will wait for Special Dark…I will!
I’m just dying to try more pu’erh, and they have a few that I’ve researched. Just one more order, and then I’ll quit. If I can get this order to happen, I’ll be good for a long time.
How long is the Mandala sale going on til?

After this comment coming out of my mouth this morning in regards to my stash “This is crazy”.
I am joining the tea buying hiatus group.
However my vow to not buy has a stipulation, I can buy pu’erh when I run out of what I am drinking, since I am using it for health benefits.
Yea I can’t do anything cold turkey. No will power!
