A Question from 52Teas . . .

I hope that you’ll take the time to read this post and comment – because I want to hear your thoughts on it. I had originally posted what will follow here on one of @Kittenna’s tasting notes. So, here goes:
I have been debating with myself about this year’s 12 Teas of Christmas. I have tossed around the idea of doing a full advent – but this really isn’t a feasible thing for me. I am a one person operation – and to make 24 teas in addition to the 5 teas per month that I’d be doing for subscriptions – I neither have the studio space nor the energy or sanity to pull that off. I wish I did – but until I can afford to pay employees and have a larger facility, I simply cannot pull that off.
An idea that I’ve also been tossing around my mind is maybe doing an actual 12 teas of Christmas – focused on teas that can be in some way – inspired by the 12 gifts from the song. I actually have come up with most of the teas that I’d blend to the 12 days of christmas song – some would be reblends and some new teas – and they all have an abstract connection to the gifts mentioned in the song. But this would negate the vote and I know that people appreciate that ability to vote on the reblends that would be featured in the box, so again – I don’t know.
My final idea was to maybe do a tea translation of the song for the holiday – and then put together a 12 reblends box in December (since the tea translation box would already have been sent out in November) and ship out the 12 reblend box as a 12 Reblends for the New Year box – or maybe go with the current formula (8 reblends + 4 new teas) and call it the 12 Teas for the New Year box?
I don’t know. My S/O tells me that I need to just keep it to one box because I drive my household crazy during the blending/production of the box and I don’t need to double that. What are your thoughts?
Personally, I like the final idea. I can drive my household crazy because they drive me crazy – so that’s not one of my concerns. I would much rather have people enjoying teas – but in order to make the work worth my while – I need to know that people would actually want the 2 boxes the way I’ve proposed.
So – I turn it over to you, my dear tea lovers – what do you think?
I don’t think it’s necessary to do more than you’re doing now, but I’d also buy whatever box or boxes you made!
I really like the idea of the box being tied to the song- seems fun!
Maybe instead of doing 2 boxes in December, you could make a set couple months reblend only months, so that those who love to vote can still do so?
But, similarly to AJRimmer above, I would buy any/all of it.
I loooove the idea of theming the teas to the song for one year; I feel like you could either do an additional reblends box, as you mention, or take a vote and reblend, say, the top 8 teas (including white/oolong/hojicha!!!) over the first four months of 2023 or something. So 6 teas in each of the first four months of the year, 2 of which are reblends, and one of which is a “bonus” reblend not in the sub box (but maybe, available as an add-on for those who want it? Perhaps a one-time extra charge for subscribers to add all 4 bonus teas on?) I don’t know if this is logistically any easier for you, though. Alternately, do a poll for reblends in 2023 and just draw from that for the featured reblend each month.
Personally, I think that it would be ok to have a year where there isn’t a poll for reblends for the 12 teas of Christmas. I don’t feel like it would hurt demand for the box. Realistically, we are mostly all very flush with teas in general, and there is no guarantee of our faves being reblended anyhow (but some years, like this year, we get really lucky!!) I feel like you also have a fairly good idea of your most popular teas, and perhaps this would allow you to reblend for the 12 teas some more forgotten gems – teas from the earlier days that fit the theme really well.
I’ll be buying the box(es) regardless, though.
I’m new to 52Teas (the holiday box was my first exposure!) so I don’t have the historical perspective of a superfan with specific reblend desires, but… I would be super excited about a song-themed box! That sounds really fun; I love the idea of having a vague sense of what each day would entail but then being surprised by your interpretations.
Maybe the reblend box could happen at a different time of year, like a “holiday in July” type of thing?
Christmas in July was my original thought – but since the heat is pretty intense at that point – I’m not sure. I find that I’m not quite as productive during the hottest summer months – which is why I suggested box for New Years – I’m much more productive during the winter months than I am any other time of the year. But, I also want it to be something that people would be receptive to – because I can be productive but if people aren’t buying it, it doesn’t matter a whole lot.
