The Future of Steepster

The past two weeks had been very frustrating as our intention was to dedicate time and effort to address the many deficiencies you’d identified for us to fix. Unfortunately, this work can’t begin until we receive access to the Steepster server, which has yet to occur. We will continue to work with Steepter’s founders on finding a solution that will permit us to begin at last the task of making this website easier for all to use. Please accept my sincere apology for the unforeseen delay and your frustrations. I share them as well.

I’m having problems accessing my dashboard and seeing other people’s notices. I hope this is just temporary, but am wondering if others are having issues as well.

Same here. My dashboard is empty and several of the pages are giving me 503 errors. Also, I just had to complete a captcha to get here so that’s new.

Wall of 503s for me for the last two days, have barely been able to get on the site. I use Privacy Pass for sites that use DDoS protections but still somehow got caught in some Cloudflare reload cycle that would not let me into the site at all until I cleared my cache completely and re-logged in… Dashboard is empty and the 503s aren’t just intermittent, but making things unusable at this point.

The new captcha step is meant to deter spammers, which appear to be creating hundreds of new users each day, which is slowing the site and leading to some users getting a 503 error. We’ll restore the SSL security soon, but for the time being kindly ask you to use http://www.steepster.com and not https: prefix. We’re working as fast as we can on solving the spammer issue, so the inconveniences you’d encountered should be temporary. Sorry again!

I’m glad you’re working on fixing these issues. I hope the Captcha won’t be needed for long-time users. I also can’t see my notices or other people’s tasting notes on my dashboard.

Dashboard is still blank for me as well.

I know you use an old browser, Leafhopper, but to others — get Privacy Pass add-on. You only have to “solve” the captcha once and it “saves” an imprint of it for that website so you don’t have to do it on the same site over and over again. I find it very helpful, at least.

Okay, this has been going on for almost a week now.

The Dashboard is still broken. Occassionally one or two reviews will pop up, but 99% of the time, it is blank. It is supposed to show a running “history” of the newest reviews of everyone I am Following. This is what it looks like:

Also, I am getting the site going down a lot. Like, a lot a lot. I’d say at least every hour my browsing is interrupted with this:

http://bl.canadia.info/misc/steepster2.jpg

Which lasts anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour before it goes away, and then it just comes back later. I get those “down” pages at least 10+ times a day.

Is there any ETA on this?

(Aaaaaand trying to post this I get the “Someone forgot to turn off the kettle” error again. Lovely!)

Heh, now that I’ve finally at least got the site loading… Getting that first screen.

For the past few days the URL hasn’t been resolving. I didn’t bother screenshooting.

The URL not resolving is likely because you (and everyone else) is using “https://” at the beginning of the URL. Adagio shut off the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer, or what that “s” means on the URL). You have to remove the “s” and use “http://” to access the site right now, or you’ll just get errors/not be able to access the site.

That said, it sure would be nice if Adagio had put this information out there somewhere off the Steepster website, since pretty much none of the userbase knows this and is locked out.

Oh ya… and this is Mastress Alita, who had to make a new account just to post to the forums, because now that is broken for me too. I am so frustrated with this broken mess of a site I am this close to taking my tea review backup and going back to Wordpress…

At least you had the site layout still. I had a white page with everything aligned right. Very difficult to decipher anything.

New Funtime: Steepster no longer works at all in Chrome for me, regardless of computer or device. On Edge right now (of all things…). I either get a timeout error or a refusal error.

Also an unsecure connection, but I can understand if it takes a bit to get the certificate updated once Steepster switched hands.

I can still post reviews (yay?), but my dashboard is mostly empty as well. The site is occasionally down for me, too.

Currently the site is pretty unusable for me. I can’t log in from my main browser Chrome, only from Edge. My dashboard is empty. I can understand that the changes may take time, but Steepster is probably losing a lot of users because of the situation.
And recommending using the unsecured site is both dangerous and irresponsible.

I don’t have Dashboard, either. Could not log in since last Friday.

I just spent the last 3 hours unable to log in myself… I think it’s a miracle I finally got back into my account. I absolutely fear what will happen if I have to reboot my computer, clear my browser cache, or otherwise loose this session for some reason…

So… this is the first time I’ve managed to “get into” the site in DAYS.

For a while I was getting the “Kettle is on” landing page (or whatever it says) and then I was stuck in a weird captcha loop, and then it just flat out would not load at all, no matter what I did. I decided to check it out this evening, and by pure dumb luck I typed the address in wrong (http instead of https) and managed to find my way here. My dashboard is empty, like the photo that Mastress Alita shared above.

I contacted Steepster on FB and have checked both FB/Twitter daily for any “update” but there has been no communication outside of the post here which, let me reiterate, was NOT viewable for literally DAYS and continues to not be viewable at all (because I CANNOT get into the site using the https address) through “normal methods” of accessing the site, so I had absolutely no clue what was going on. I imagine that many Steepster users are currently finding themselves in the EXACT same boat.

I expect some delays/bumps during this transition period, though I’m certainly dissatisfied with how long this is taking. The functionality of the site is actually worse now that it was before, even with the glitches. However, what is completely baffling me and is (in my opinion) completely unacceptable is the total lack of communication about the ongoing issues. Years back, when Jason was actively responding to glitches/errors, even on the few times that the site was down/frozen (for considerable shorter increments than this, mind you) they would put some kind of update on either FB, Twitter, or both.

I know that Adagio has access to the FB account because they responded to me earlier there during the cache issues.

The communication needs to be better.

Absolutely agree. Posting a reply to someone’s post on steepster when most of the population can’t access the site doesn’t help everyone who can’t access the site! I’ll take back my glitchy but working site now please.

Crowkettle said

Yes, this was/is confusing, exacerbated by poor communication and unreliable communication platforms. Updating FB or Twitter, even if briefly during widespread glitches would quell some of the uncertainty.

Nice Admin badge though!

Wow, I haven’t been able to post on the forums for years now, so this is something. :)

I’d take the the dashboard working properly and knowing I was seeing everyone’s new tea notes over this any day though. Hope that gets sorted out soon!

So, now I cannot post to the forums, or even comment on tea reviews. The button just says “Posting…” forever. As you can see…

Oh, crap. I’m unfortunately overly familiar with that screenshot depicts. :/

Everything seems so random right now.
