George Orwell wrote an excellent essay on tea, with which I very much agree. If you put sugar or milk in the tea, you don’t love the tea. You’re only using it as an excuse to consume more sugar or milk. You are not enjoying the tea itself.
Hello,
All of the above that you have just mentioned will be acceptable in tea. For the purpose of milk I usually see that when people are making bubble tea, and of course the sugar and honey are basic for any regular hot tea use. Thank you.
I think it all depends on the type of tea. I enjoy milk and honey in earl gray or chai but I like to drink green and oolong by itself.
both. for black tea blends I sometimes like milk and sugar……for green, white and tisanes just sugar, honey or nothing.
One does not drink green tea with sugar.
agree, usually I do not have green with sugar. I have one green that I like with honey, but it’s a holiday green and feels more like dessert than green tea.
I typically do not add anything to my tea. The only exception is if a fruit tea is too tart. In this case, I might add a little rock sugar. I love the idea of a tea latte but every time I add milk, I don’t like it as much. I’m thinking about brewing the tea extra strong to try a latte again.
Now, my kids are a little different. My middle child is similar to me. But my oldest and youngest like sugar(sometimes honey) and milk.
For black tea, I always add sugar and milk. For lighter teas, I generally only add sugar, and much less of it.
Sugar only for black teas. Not just any sugar, highly refined pure sweet sugar from Mitsui (Spoon Brand). As it is pure clear sweetness with no residual or after taste at all, it does not cloud the taste of the tea. Only a very small amount. ¼ teaspoon per 350ml of tea. I feel it enhances the delicate flavors contained within the teas such as FF Darjeeling.
aside from Chai (milk and sugar every time!), I generally avoid adding sugar. also certain teas (genmaicha in particular) really don’t seem suited to sugar. if I do use sugar it I usually restrict it to black teas.
I sweeten my tea with honey – I adore honey! Another Winnie the Pooh I am! Orange blossom and summer thistle honey are my favorites. For breakfast teas and Earl Grey I add a jot of whole milk along with my honey. I’ve even been known to add a smidge of honey to my beloved second flush Darjeeling teas – Heavenly! I never, ever, use sugar.
I seldom add anything to the tea except matcha.
