2016: How Much will you spend on tea this year?
I have no idea what I spent last year, for I lost track around autumn harvest. This year I am going to do my best to keep track, but I am not “limiting” myself with a budget… #goodmove #badmove?
I spent about a grand on tea last year, and I hope to make it 750 this year. I have a significant stash I hope to pare down a little, and now that I teach I don’t sit and sip tea all day anymore, but I want the room to add to my stash as I please.

Total: 352 – Sadly, my lack of tea purchasing has been a direct reflect4ion of a slowdown in tea drinking. I basically dehydrate during the week, as teachers can never be entirely sure when their next bathroom break is, and most of my spending has been on new tea bags to use easily at school. Good for the wallet though.
So glad you started this Sil!
I’ve kept track for the last two years and I intend to continue to do so this year as well. Unfortunately, over the last two years my spending has only increased but, like last year, my goal is the same: Spend less money than I did last year. A related goal would be to spend less than $200 on tea or teaware/month. Like the last two years, I’m counting tea and teaware purchases but NOT swaps…

Failed at keeping budget this year…
Maybe I’ll do better in 2017? It’s kind of scary thinking that I cracked $2000 this year. So much of that was in December too, and is stuff I haven’t even received yet.
I guess only time will tell.
ZERO. I tried this last year but failed miserable. I probably have enough pu erh right now for 5-10 years worth of daily drinking so I figure I’d better drink it, otherwise why did I buy it! lol Wish me luck!
Good Luck – I did the math recently – If I drank 7g of pu’erh everyday for 2 years I would still have some.
I don’t normally drink it more than once or twice a week – at my normal rate I have somewhere between 7 and 13 years worth. LOL I understand your situation. Here’s to not buying anymore pu’erh for quite awhile. :))
Sssssh! That total, whether projected or actual, is secret. No one in my immediate family or circle of friends can know. Even I cannot know… Oh! The horror!
Lordy, if I’m going to stay on any sort of budget, I may need to unsubscribe from the Misc. Tea Sales thread! D:
Thus far…
Verdant: 30.00
Yunnan Sourcing: 29.70 (teaware)
TeaRations (little tea shop we found on vacation): 26.38
Fong Mong Tea Shop: 56.68
Misc. Teaware: 18.75
Misc. Boxed Tea: ~$30
Shipping (I think this deserves its own column): 11.50
I’m hoping to spend less than $175 including teaware in 2016. Unfortunately I have a teapot on my “to buy” list and I’ve only found a handful I like all in the $50 range but in 2015 I spent ~$150 (that I remember….) so it should be a feasible goal!
Edit:
I went waaaaay above budget…. I don’t even want to know how much I’ve spent on tea this year…
I broke some of my teaware this morning, so I’m adding $80 to the allotted $500 to replace some basics.
How can anyone who won’t spend $5 on a new pair of ear buds but spends $500 in an online tea shop consider themselves realistic with money?
I can say, however, whatever I spend on tea and teaware, I plan to spend as little as possible on food, clothing and shelter. And I only shower every fourth day.
Looking at my Mint account, I spent $592 on tea last year. Way up from $212 in 2014. But last year was a coming of age year in tea for me. I really broadened my tea horizons, and splurged a bit trying different teas from various stores. Now that I know what I like and am a little savvier, I expect to spend less. I also plan to drink down my stash and hold off ordering any more teas until spring (famous last words!). My tea budget for 2016 is $350.
I’m also limiting my teaware purchases to $200 this year. Last year they added up to $504. But I started off the year with nothing but a kyusu and a large teacup. So I had to buy everything – gaiwans, cups, kettle, tea table, etc. My teaware buying should be less frequent this year now that I have accumulated all of the essential gear.
