10/20/15, Update
Budgeted amount left to spend $143
I’ll cover/gift $30 toward the surprises putting the amount at $173

Awaiting Funds / For Sure Buy
https://www.taiwanteacrafts.com/product/1988-aged-ginseng-oolong-tea/ 200g = $57.75

Oh the pain… I now have to to find out what from the following will be selected and what will not make the cut:
http://www.floatingleavestea.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17&products_id=178 ($47 for 140g)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330958470878?var=540210346599 ($70 for 250g)
https://www.jteainternational.com/tea/aged-beauty-1979 ($104 for 200g)
30 Year Taiwan oolong from Hojo Tea (if it’s possible, I will have to inquire about price)
http://www.houdeasianart.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_75&products_id=1012 ($70 for 200g)

Personally I would like to add the oriental beauty and dancong to provide a larger coverage of variation, but that would go over the budget. My plan is to have all the stuff ordered before I watch V For Vendetta on November 5th so there is a little bit of time to see my bank will finally give me my $75 back from August or if anyone wants to help contribute to gifting for the holidays.

So that’s the plan, to finalize purchases by November 5th with hopes that everything comes in by December’ish.

Yeah they do look interesting! An ob with medicinal taste sounds really weird

The 1979 aged beauty sounds amazing. I’d probably session it listening to the Smashing Pumpkins.

I bet that’s rare as hens teeth, right?

I sent you a pm about something else btw

Okay, so some clarification: I’ve had a few people interested in my ‘crazy idea’ that I posted. According to the conversations it seems as if it isn’t clear so I’ll try to clarify.

Those who would like to donate/contribute on top of their dues to provide a gift for 19 others can do so. As I said earlier, this idea is crazy and all but with the Holidays being right around the time these will ship out I realized it’s a pretty sweet opportunity to gift 19 others easily.Again, I am not asking anyone to do this but I am offering it.

There are two different ways:
1. Pay for a portion of a tea by giving an amount that you would like to.
2. Cover the total cost for a tea and have it shipped to me or send me the money to purchase it; or provide funds for wrapping paper, stickers, or whatever else.

For example: I’m providing $75 to option 1 with another individual to purchase it’s a surprise.

All of this is secret so everyone will have an element of surprise, but if you are interested please PM me.

This is going to be the last update until one is requested or I have pictures :)

While I have a lot of great news, much of it is to remain a surprise. What I can say is that the $620 budget is now sitting around $800, just use your imagination for now to think of what I’ll do with that money :)

The last purchases will occur on Halloween and I will keep them a surprise as well, but I am highly confident that everyone will be happy.

I actually switched from ordering kraft pouches to straight black due to cost (only cost $83 for 1000!)

In regards to payment, it’d be awesome if around November 5th people could pay as I expect to be mailing these out the day after Thanksgiving; this is possible because I have a helping hand coming over to attach labels after I weigh out sample which is almost… I was going to say how many samples everyone is getting, but that’s a surprise as well!

sounds good :)

Sample pouches that cost so low, can you post the link?

You have to purchase 100(pieces) x 10 to get a decent rate.
Their selection is HUGE, just be aware that shipping will be about $10 on everything but overall the end price is great. I was paying $65 per 500 before :/

Sounds amazing – thanks :D For payment, I’m guessing you want a Paypal payment? If you PM me your details, I’ll transfer it ASAP :-)

I will actually go ahead and message details to everyone who is following me back as of now. No pressure though!
done
That was a lot of messages…
I believe those who I was unable to send information to were: tperez , t ching, and Marzipan

There is no requirement to follow me, but that is the easiest method to send the information.

If I missed anyone just let me know.

I cupped an aged oolong today – my first. It was super smoky. Hopefully they all aren’t?

tperez said

I’ve had one that was pretty smoky and two that weren’t at all

There is actually a wide range of taste within this sampler. I know that some are going to have that strong roast taste that comes off as smokey, which to me taste a lot like charcoal smells… however, some of these are similar to dried fruits and a few will have the caramel mixed with small notes of chocolate. However, as every dealer has alluded to, aged oolongs are very complex and will change in taste through multiple steeps. I was told specifically by one seller to not steep one of these teas less than 8 times before making an evaluation. Now the Alishan is close to a roasted coffee taste which I don’t mind; I believe a lot of it has to do with the quality of tea, the experience of roasting, the storage of the tea, the reroasting…. and probably many more factors.
The front page has all the links of stuff bought, except the gifts, which provide information.

Since this was for a class, it had strict cupping standards. I have more though, I might try it gongfu and steep it out to see if it ends up better.

Was it a yancha or a roasted tieguanyin?

It just said Buddha’s Palm.

I believe depending on the age, it was common to charcoal roast oolong so they can be pretty smokey.

If the interest is high, I can contact them to see about having 20 individual packages sent to me to save shipping and include them in this sampler; the funds should work out, I’ll double check when I’m fully awake.

I’m in, this looks very interesting!

I’ll find out more this week. If my bank will finally deposit the money they owe me, I’ll probably end up paying for half of this myself for everyone because I think it’s something too awesome to pass out.
I myself would be greatly happy to have a chance to sip at a 40 year oolong, but even better is knowing tea friends alike could also participate with me

t-ching said

That would be great to try, even if we only get 3 grams of that one!

Yes!

Yes, if you can hook us up for a deal that would be great. Or if it doesn’t go through, let us know before it ends so I can buy some for myself.

+1 Oolong Owl. If it doesn’t work out I’d like pick it up for myself.

Rasseru said

im interested too.

same ^

Gosh – looks amazing :D

(I do also like their concept – it’s pretty cool. I’ll probably keep an eye on them :D )

I am doing my best to make this as amazing as I can. Currently awaiting communication to see if it is possible. If not, I will let everyone know here and those who can’t live without the experience can submit a payment.
I’m really hoping I can aquire the amount of 20 individuals contributing.
This would make this sampling even better than it already was.

Not to be a party pooper but isn’t it a bit late to be trying to add this to the existing group buy? Also, they seem to have set up their business model to encourage people like us to order individually.

I haven’t used all the money yet and the plan is to mail out the day after Thanksgiving so I don’t believe time would be an issue.
It is up to them if they are open to a large group joining in. My thought process is going along the lines of how awesome it would be to have 19 others try the tea rather than say 10 of us purchase it when I’ll be buying more aged oolong this weekend anyways.

Again, I’m just doing the best I can to make this amazing so if they say yes then awesome and no well… I tried

I’m in if this is happening too. I apologize that I am just getting caught up. Halloween week gets crazy for me :)

My original email came back as undelivered after 48 hours… that’s forever to find out it didn’t go through. I sent another today.

Hey there Liquid Proust, if you want to set something up or if the interest is high enough, just send me an email and we can work something out in no time.

I’m interested too! =)

Lol, obviously I’m late to the party b’c LP already made the purchase. Awesomeee

Purchases have been made!
Added a 3g of https://worldteapodcast.com/projects/1975-wenshan-baozhong-2/ for everyone.

Also added http://yunnansourcing.com/en/wuyimountainrockoolongs/3687-9-years-aged-da-hong-pao-rock-oolong-tea.html as it was just released :)

Good news: Though I am not going to taste anything until everyone has their packages shipped out, I did need to verify one of the purchases. More information will be included with the tea, but I found a mixture of oolong and sheng pressed and fermented together for a few years. This was something I had to brew myself before sending it out to everyone with the chance that it would be absolutely odd or terrible. Turns out, it is neither :)

The ‘eh’: Taiwan Craft Teas had told me via email that they were releasing a new aged oolong, however after watching every Friday release… I did not see one.

I’ll be crunching numbers because I just found something that may be a “must have” for this:
https://instagram.com/p/9esUtsxYGr/
https://instagram.com/p/9exCnzRYPp/

and, the bad: One of my gifts can only be given to 18 people :/

Rasseru said

The main thing in bothered about is us all getting the right steep first time because it is small numbers.

The trouble iI had with my latest dhp. It took a long time to nearly get it right

I’m pretty sure World Tea Podcast will have great recommendations and a Podcast to listen to about the tea. I can’t be 100% certain about that, but I’m not the least bit worried.

If anyone needs to pay after the 5th just PM me. I’ve already started weighting everything out and it’s going smoothly.
The last three orders have been shipped and I may end up getting these out before Thanksgiving! If anyone’s shipping info changes between now and two weeks please inform me because it’s possible that I will sneak these in the mail and save the tracking information in a Word file because I enjoy surprises.
I won’t begin my journey until someone else revives their box. This has been lots of fun preparing as I watched the box of supplies grow and grow. A good $800+ has been put into this group sampling for the 20 of us, but I doubt money will provide an explanation for the valuable experience we receive with each session that will go on for multiple steeps.
If anyone wants to coordinate steeping times and what not from the store sites feel free to, but I will not have an insert inside the packages of 15, 16, 17… a lot of teas; much to do with everyone using different equipment and having different prefences of taste.
