Pine/smoky tea?

I can’t think of a smokey/pine tea offhand, but I think the sleeping bear blend by Whispering Pines actually has pine needles in it. I’ve never tried it because it was always out of stock when I was shopping, but I remember seeing good reviews. The owner of WP teas (Brenden) is always around here somewhere though, so he could probably tell you when it will be back. If no one else can suggest smoke + pine blends, you could always blend a little lapsang souchong from TeaVivre into what you find. It is the most authentic smokey tea I’ve ever had. Best of luck! :)

Wild Yabao 2009 from The Finest Brew has natural pine notes but it wasn’t smokey.

Teavivre’s is actually my favorite Lapsang Souchong. Smoky, but not overly so like so many others. You can actually taste the tea beneath the smoke.
Do you like pu-erh? There are tons smoky shengs available.

I like a little smoke and pine. Too much grosses me out, like I should just scrape some bits off my BBQ and tea that.

Any lapsang souchong will give you as much smoke as you can stand. I stopped bringing it to work because people were looking around wondering what was burning. Keemun usually has obvious smoke, but not nearly as much as LS. Also, some pu-erhs, but you need to read the reviews for those.

I got an actual pine needle tea for Christmas. It’s really refreshing! Maybe you could combine it with a LS?

I would suggest Silver Buds Yabao by Verdant Tea. Its like sweet pine nectar. So delicious. If you want the smokey aspect, perhaps blend it yourself with a little LS? Easy does it on the LS as it could easily overpower the Yabao

I really like Cornelia Bean’s Lapsang Souchong – it’s a bit more complex than some others I’ve tried, and the smoke is strong but not overpowering.

Tippy’s The People’s Tea is a really beautiful variation on smokey teas – it has some very floral notes to it, too.

Algonquin Tea Co’s Sacred Blend is very pine and herb tasting – really excellent.

I will second Lynne-tea’s suggestion for a Yabao. I have the Yi Wu Wild Buds Yabao 2009 Pu’er by The Finest Brew and it has some nice pine notes.
