Our ears are roasting, and I’m not talking about the corn crop! Any tea I’ve made this week needs to fit the “two hot sips and then ice it down” category. Good old solid, dependable Tazo to the rescue. It’s strong enough to open the eyes and get me out the door without any sharp edges to cut myself on—not tannic or acidic, and doesn’t get too watery on ice.
My current supply will not outlast this heat wave. It’s on the grocery list.
We’ve been talking a bit—or I have, anyway—about ungoofables; dependable tea you can make in your sleep or in unfavorable circumstances. Hubby brought a box of Awake bags home (not sure why), and after a good strong wake-up tumbler, I think I’ll nominate this one for the short list, too. A little sharp on your tongue if you oversteep, but good and drinkable with or without milk.
After staring so hard at a writing project for three twelve-hour days I fear falling headfirst into the monitor, I scrounged around for the strongest wake-up tea to hand. This was it. It’s not a fussy tea—which is great in makeshift circumstances. Not sure I can detect any significant flavor differences between Awake and good ol’ Red Rose, but it is strong and capable. Some afternoons, that’s all you need in the cup.
If I want a herbal in winter this is my go-to. Gentle and sweet with a little sharpness that echos the black tea that is my normal choice. I use a longer seep time. This is good with things that are not too sweet because it is easy to overpower the gentle sweetness of this tea.
Preparation
This may be my most favorite tea for my entire early twenties. About five years of them. I drink this one nearly scalding hot, best in a glass container. It’s sweet and smooth and perfect just as it is. The citrus is everywhere but never aggressive. Its one of the perfect rare ones.
Not exciting, not terrible. It’s a pretty middle of the road blend that I probably won’t get a whole lot more of. But it was not bad. It’s just not what I had in mind when seeking out Christmas blends.
I’ve been sipping on a pitcher all week long. Might be my favorite black tea for iced tea!
Side note to celebrate on … the new fridge finally arrived, so I can actually have ice in the iced tea! It’s the little things :)
Glad to hear.
