Pulled this out to explore a new project. I am thinking that it might help to put it in a special container. Found some neat labels at: http://www.eatdrinkchic.com/post.cfm/diy-vintage-tea-cannister-labels-free-download
Don’t hate me for putting this here!
This is “old reliable” for me. When I’m too tired or too lazy to actually brew tea, I dump one of these into a mason jar filled with ice and water and stir. I don’t like plain water, so this is often what I’m drinking instead.
The taste is sweet and tangy. I can’t help it, I like this stuff. I order it by the case from Amazon.
If I haven’t logged any real tea in a few days, this is what I’ve been drinking. There, my secret is out!
There is no shame here. We’re all about pleasure, however you find it. At least those of us who haven’t taken the Deep, Mysterious, Ancient Vow of Tea Purity are fine with drinking for pleasure.
What is it exactly? It looks like the powdered lemonade that you mix with water. Is that it? Some sort of sugared instant tea?
Okay, I went and grabbed a box from downstairs so I could add the ingredients to the description.
I was thinking that it was just powdered flavor, but it actually has tea in it! It’s just like those packets of lemonade or whatnot that you add to water bottles.
I love sweet teas, but this one has too a little bit of a bitter bite at the end. I tried to deaden the bitterness with cream, and it worked to a point, but I still tasted it a bit. It smells really awesome out of the bag, but I much prefer Bigelow’s Vanilla Caramel — no weird bitter aftertaste and better price.
Oh my god, I was with my boyfriend yesterday after work so I didn’t have a chance to check Steepster at all. I just curiously peeked in at the forum last night when I was checking email and replied to a couple of topics, but I haven’t read most of them yet and I haven’t read any of my dashboard pages at all since… tuesday morning, I think. And this last week I’ve been on a rather an enormous adding spree for no other reason than clicking the ‘follow’ button is way more fun than it logically ought to be. I just like adding new people, it makes me feel social. Probably a subconscious response to being such an anti-social person in real life.
I’ll just do my backlogs while gathering courage for tackling the rest.
First up, a backlog from yesterday. I was at a course and this was the tea served. Or rather, it was the topmost teabag in the pile provided to choose from. I wasn’t feeling picky and I’ve always liked strawberry tea.
It did definitely taste of strawberries, but it was fairly synthetic in flavour. Had a LOT of equally synthetic aroma too.
Actually, it had so much aroma that (and I swear this is absolutely true) I accidentally dipped one sleeve of my cardigan in the cup and got a little stain there, and hours later the boyfriend sniffed at my other arm and stated, “you smell like strawberries today.” He didn’t know at the time that I’d had strawberry tea. I suppose it could be a coincidence, but what are the odds?
So, it was a pretty mediocre cup of tea, but I’m inclined to be generous on the rating. Even the most mediocre tea wins in flavour when you get to drink it from a proper cup instead of those cheap plastic cups that you just burn your fingers on.
Steeped this twice today. For some reason, the smell makes me think of a latte, and even though I hate coffee, I kind of like this smell. I like the rich but not overly dark presence of the tea, mixed with the sweetness of the caramel and vanilla. The flavor lingers for a bit, which is nice. Makes a good “dessert” tea, though I still prefer Pomegranate Delight by Twinings in that regard. I relax a little with this one, but others have a greater effect on me.
Microwaved 2.5 minutes, steeped a couple minutes (don’t remember…) Smelled like a caramel latter while steeping. I can taste the caramel and vanilla pretty equally, and they’re pretty strong compared to the tea itself (I steep everything briefly, because I like milder tea). Out of curiosity, I added a little Coffee-Mate (hey, I don’t always have milk in the fridge), which made it slightly creamier. It mellowed out as I drank it.
I’m not a fan of iced tea, unlike my Mom, the Iced Tea Queen. Mom bought a 12 pack of this, thinking it was the diet version (she’s on a strict no-sugar diet). So she nagged me to drink it. I tentatively tried a bottle and braced for impact.
About a dozen 12 packs later, I think I can say that this is an iced tea that people who do not like iced tea will like. It’s very sweet but not syrupy and doesn’t leave a coating on yoru tongue that you later need a glass of cold water to wash off. It’s really good when you wake up in the middle of the night and your mouth is really dry and you need something to cut the thirst but your tap water is kinda dodgy.
Goes well with food or by itself. One day I may fill up an ice cube tray with this and freeze it to see if it makes a decent popsicle … but that would take effort.
This is actually a pretty good softdrink! I don’t really think of it as tea, but it is a really nice, sweet thirst quencher. The raspberry does taste pretty fake, though.
I was visiting my Dad and his wife one weekend and ran out of the teabags I had packed. (Dad & my stepmother are coffee drinkers. I, as usual, had completely underestimated the amount of tea I drink in a weekend.) But he had bought me a box of this in honor my stay. Since he didn’t have a kettle, I had to brew this in the microwave. The results did not look promising.
But the tea actually came out well. It’s one of the best things Lipton has ever put out. I’m starting to think there isn’t any actual green tea in it, but black tea and powdered heroin or something, because every couple of months I buy a box, if I happen to find it.
Most green teas need delicate and careful handling, but you can really abuse this tea and still get a decent cup. I think it tastes best with using only hot water but I’ve accidentally used boiling water and the results were pretty much the same. It goes better with food than drunk all by it’s lonesome.
My Mom (not to be confused with my stepmother) likes to drink this hot or iced.
