448 Tasting Notes
Inkling and I participated in a swap and I requested a bunch of Butiki teas, because I didn’t get to try them much when the company was around. This one was my tea this morning, because I just couldn’t resist the name.
The white tea base is the main thing I tasted, but it was a very lovely base! There was also a great creaminess, but I don’t know if I can say I picked out much distinct flavor. That was likely my fault though, since I had this with a mint oreo donut, not thinking about the fact that it was likely much too overwhelming for a more delicate tea. Oops!
Used the Keurig at work to get some hot water and make this. I’m not always the biggest fan of chamomile, but with this it blended with the rest of the flavors and made a nice sweet honey flavor overall
Maybe it’s just my aversion to K-Cups, but on the occasions I’ve messed with a coffee drinker’s Keurig, even plain water tasted like plastic and dirty coffee. Is there a trick to it that doesn’t involve dismantling and scrubbing?
I received my 52Teas purchase on Friday and have been drinking away since then, though this weekend was anniversary weekend with the boyfriend, and we were out and about doing too many fun things for me to have a chance to log my teas on here!
I had this twice over the weekend. One cup was steeped about 8 minutes and the other was around 10 minutes. Both cups tasted about the same, though I feel like the 10 minute one was slightly creamier and sweeter. For me, the mint is the main flavor here. I don’t actually taste a chocolate flavor, but get more of a sweet creaminess that keeps this from being a straight mint tea. I may try adding milk to this to get more creaminess. I’ve never added milk to honeybush, is that a good idea or a terrible idea?
Preparation
I got this in my Simple Loose Leaf box last night, and I knew I had to try it right away. The description talks about vanilla and baked goods, so it was perfect for after dinner
Dry, this smells like a super sweet vanilla cake covered in icing. Steeped up it becomes more of a vanilla cookie smell. That baked flavor doesn’t come through quite as well in the flavor however. The taste is actually much truer to the name than the scent. It’s a very vanilla flavor with lots of spice, so much so that it tingles a bit on the throat. There’s a bit of that bakey goodness, but it’s definitely a background flavor.
This is definitely a nice, sweet, strongly flavored herbal for after dinner.
Preparation
Another old one. This one wasn’t even sealed but it’s kept it’s scent. And I’m getting some flavor! Some creaminess and a bit of tart berry! I’m impressed but I’ll probably toss the rest of this since I have much newer and tastier tea to spend my time on
Another questionably old tea, this one is from a swap or TTB so I have no clue how old this one is. But it is at least over a year old, so take this with a grain of salt.
The dry leaf smells like buttered popcorn to me, though brewed up it smells like an apricoty, peachy jam. It definitely seems to have lost flavor due to age. Nothing tastes bad, but instead of distinct flavors I’m just getting a vague fruity sweet flavor
Preparation
Morning tea at work today. I’m trying to drink more than just my black teas in the morning, because I get home too late most days to drink anything with caffeine, so lots of teas are getting neglected!
This one still tastes as good as I remember, with jasmine and blueberry mixing together and no one flavor being too overwhelming compared to the other, though everything seems a little weaker than I remember, which tells me this tea is probably getting a bit old and it’s time to finish this up! Maybe I can make some cold brewed tea with this and get more of those flavors out
Preparation
Wow, I have some old teas that I probably shouldn’t be holding on to. How long do they stay good? It might be time to start cleaning out the cupboard!
Either way, I still gave this one a try. I didn’t get a whole lot of flavor (probably because of the age!) so I splashed in some milk and finished it off
How old was this? I was amazed by how much flavour my Della Terra Shamrocks had and it was like 2.5 years old when I finished it off the other week.
2.5-3 years probably sounds right. I actually have at least one unopened Della Terra tea so I’m curious to see how that will be!
