Craigmore
Originally incorporated in the UK in 1884 as the Ceylon Land and Produce Company Limited, today this estate located in the bucolic Nilgiri hills in South India is known as Craigmore. For more than 130 years, this estate has excelled in the production of “high grown” orthodox teas, of both the black tea and pan-fired green tea variety.
Nestled in the Nilgiris, which literally translates to Blue Mountains, Craigmore is perched at an elevation of approximately 5,500 ft. This elevation affords the estate a cool and wet microclimate. Coupled with the composition of the soil found in the Nilgiris, conditions are ideal for the production of world renowned teas. The high grown Orthodox black teas are manufactured at a separate facility than the pan-fired green teas. The quality of production and manufacturing is meticulous as evidenced by the fact that over half of the 1.3 million kilograms of annually produced Orthodox black teas are exported to the EU after passing their stringent compliance standards.
