Dry leaf smells like tangy tomato leaf.
Wet leaf has a blackberry jam aroma.

Brewed western style, this is a delicious assam that can enjoyed heavy or light on the tannins depending on steeping method. I prefer the lighter flavors of dark fruit and malt with just a hint of drying astringency to balance it out at the end.

Once again a very nice Assam from Vahdam. The usual malty and honey-like sweet notes are there. The tea has almost no bitterness and close to zero astringency. I would say this is a very smooth Assam where the flavours are less pronounced, so that’s a great thing if you like tea that doesn’t punch you in the face with its flavours.

Not the best Assam ever, but a very nice tea for sure.

Went with a double steeping of this tea today—one for breakfast and one for my afternoon.

The dried leaves are very pretty: Whole, orthodox, rolled leaves with lots of gold tips.

I brewed 10 grams of tea in 20 ounces of near-boiling water for 4 minutes (first steeping) and 4 minutes, 30 seconds (second steeping). The brewed liquor came out to be a lovely red-brown hue.

As this is a black Assam tea, it had the expected malty aroma and flavor—not overpowering but good. There was also a flavor of toasted bread—not unexpected for an Assam. Very little astringency to it. Finally, with both steepings I noticed a very slight spicy flavor to it—very hard to pin down what spice, exactly, but I came to the conclusion that it was similar to nutmeg. I wasn’t expecting this at all, but it was very good!

Overall, this tea was very good. I am sad that this was only a sample so I have none left to try again later, but enjoyed this one immensely today.

Now this one from Vahdam tastes like a black tea. It is strong and robust with notes of malt in there. There is a little bitterness but not much. This is one I could see adding milk too but I did add sugar. I won’t go as far as to say I found chocolate notes. It is not as good as their first flush Darjeelings but still good. Of course this is a Assam so I expect it to be stronger. This is a good one to buy if you like a nice strong cup of tea.

I brewed this one time in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 190 degree water for 3 minutes. I think it would have been better with a 2 minute steep.
