This low caffeine blend has cinnamon, almond and roasted green tea

Who knew that someone once referred to as a big “walking carpet” would have such a refined taste in tea. After all, he is always thinking with his stomach. This blend is a unique mix of three different types of tea; roasted green tea, rooibos and black tea. The roasted green tea, traditionally called Houjicha, is blended with an amaretto flavored rooibos. Then we added a generous amount of warming cinnamon, and a sprinkling of black gunpowder tea. The overall flavor is spiced almond with some extra toasty notes.

Happy (belated) Star Wars Day!! This year, I’m spoiled for options when it comes to Star Wars themed tea blends, so I’ve steeped up a cup of Brewbacca which is one of the tea samples I just recently got from Trader Nick’s that I haven’t had a chance to try yet. This blend of hojicha and rooibos is toasty and very comforting with sweet and cozy notes roasted almond to go alongside more mineral and woody kind of notes from the two bases. I do think I’d have preferred this blend if it were just a hojicha base because of the heavier body and deeper coffee-like notes of the roasted green tea. Plus, it would have held up a little bit better with the added milk. However, the hojicha is the stronger of these two tea bases anyway, and the flavour is still really rich and nutty. It feels like a very spot blend for everyone’s favourite wookie, and ended up being a great choice for today!

Was interested to try this one, because I love hojicha and it’s somewhat unusual to see it in flavored blends.
I do taste a bit of the hojicha here, and it adds a nice toasty bottom note. However, the primary flavor is the amaretto rooibos, and I don’t really love amaretto/marzipan sort of flavors in tea. To me it’s quite cloying because of how sweet and cherry candylike it is, and even though I actually like that flavor in desserts, I’m not a fan of it in tea.
So a bit disappointing, but obviously that’s down to my personal preferences. I do wish the hojicha had a stronger presence, as it’s mostly overshadowed by the strong flavoring.
