1 Tasting Note View all

“[Spring 2020 harvest] This is a fairly unique yancha, even though I find it a bit hard to phrase in what way. On the nose I get notes of banana bread, citrus fruits and strawberry on top of the...” Read full tasting note

Description

Excellent medium roasted (three times) yancha made from Bei Dou cultivar.

It’s the second time we have Bei Dou in our offer. It was usually not available or roasted too lightly for our preference.

We are totally amazed by the quality of 2021 batch we recently received.

Well pronounced mineral yan yun (rock rhyme) and very strong aroma full of strawberries, peaches, forest fruits and honey create unique taste profile.

The sweetness is almost sticky and when you brew the tea full room smells like yancha.

Aftertaste is long and sweet with pleasant mineral spiciness staying on the palate and throat after swallowing the tea.

For this tea we really recommend to admire aroma of empty cup using high porcelain cups. It’s beautiful.

Bei Dou was created in 1960’s from cuttings from ancient mother trees of Da Hong Pao.

It’s one of the most famous yancha cultivars.

Origin: Lian Hua Feng (“lotus flower peak”), Zhengyan Protected Area, Wuyishan, Fujian, China.

Vintage: May 2021

Tea Varietal: Bei Dou
