“Extremely rare, Sugiyama Yaeho is one of the earliest cultivars in Japan, and by far the earliest in Shizuoka. It was created at the beginning of the twentieth century by Japan’s pioneering selective tea breeder, Sugiyama Hikosaburo, who is famous for another cultivar: Yabukita.
However, this traditionally steamed tea is much more than a simple curiosity. Hand plucked, it is processed with the utmost care, as can be seen from the splendid leaves rolled into beautiful needles.
Its liquor is fine and delicate, vegetal and floral. Its flavours are light but rich in the mouth, nose and throat. A very discreet note of astringency is balanced with natural, but not excessive, sweetness.
A minimalist heating process is used to bring out the freshness of this earliest of the early teas."
