From The Tea Girl

This tea is grown at an altitude of around 700m in Yuchi Township, located on the edge of the picturesque Sun Moon Lake (휑墩繭) in central Taiwan. The tea clone is refined from the heritage assamica strands brought to Taiwan by the Japanese during the colonial years of Taiwan (1895-1945), this TRES No. 8 Assamica strand presents itself as a large, wonderfully curled and lustrous full leaf; reminiscent of the best Bao Zhongs or Wuyi style oolongs.

A wonderfully fruity aroma emanates from the cup that evokes stewed cherries and apricot jam. In the cup, one experiences a round, fruity sweetness that is quite heady and very refreshing. A warm velvety yet full body satisfies the palate yet is not as thick and bold as an Indian Assam. Deep delicious notes of cream, honey and bourbon. A real symphony of flavour!

Sun Moon Lake, Nantou County, Taiwan. Cultivar: TRES #8 700m

2024 sipdown no. 80

This has that waffle sweetness typical of a Taiwanese black, that really comes out as the tea has cooled. The body is light-light/medium and the tea is fairly smooth overall. The real shock of this tea was with my second cup where I oversteeped by 4 minutes (face palm) and it was still perfect! I wasn’t expecting a lot since TG seems to specialise in flavoured teas, but I would happily order this one.
