2001 Essence of Tea “Jingmai Ancient Tree” Raw 357g
This tea displays all the characteristics of good, old tree tea. There’s a hint of smoke from the processing which has mostly all transformed. It’s oily, rich and has an exceptionally long aftertaste. It is also a very durable tea. In the tea sessions I’ve had with it, it has outlasted me every time.
It’s not from a big factory or famous brand & the smoke from the processing probably led it to being passed over and mostly forgotten in previous years. Now that the smoke has transformed, the quality of the base leaves and clean ageing are allowing this tea to really shine.

This is a concentrated tea. This point is a little difficult to describe, especially for those new to tea. Most teas have a sensation of the flavour spreading out in the mouth and dissipate leaving a little bit empty feeling and slight dissatisfaction. This one comes together in the mouth, coating the mouth and throat, but also giving a feeling of having a solid, intact body and character which remains in the mouth for a long time.

This tea is amazing.
I could stop with that remark, but since it’s Easter I sat down and drank this for hours while catching up on The Flash with my dad.

The smoke is still there, but it’s almost like a overpowering camphor at this point which is quite interesting. The taste lingers for awhile and the brews are incredibly dark. At 16 years old, it’s apparent it has been living a good life becoming something that is amazing.

Depth of smoky earth that has hints of spice that stick around for awhile. Highly recommend trying a sample if you get the chance, the brew is darker than when I brew my dianhongs which impresses me and the depth follows the color of the liquid as well.
