“The second infusion of this tea was quite good. I also did a third and even a fourth infusion of this tea. Strangely, it now is much darker and tastes more like the black teas I’ve been drinking....” Read full tasting note
Also labeled Lunch Ching and Longjing, Dragon Well has a distinctive shape and color: the leaves are flattened and olive green with a yellowish tinge. Dragon Well is harvested in Zhejiian Province prior to the Clear Light Festival and before the spring rains begin. The quality of this tea is judged according to four criteria: golden green color, sustained aroma, exquisite flavor, and tea leaves as flat as “a sparrow’s tongue!”
To create the classic flatness of this tea, the tea master uses a bamboo mat to press the leaves while they are being fired in the wok. This in effect “irons” the leaves! The resulting flavor is toasty, nutty, vegetal, yeasty, rich and smooth. Drink this tea without milk or sugar.
Labeled “A Cup Above” by The Cultured Cup. Longjing/Lung Ching, China Zhejiang green tea.
