Sipdown (250)

Thank you Arby for the share. This is an interesting one because I have had honeysuckle in teas before but I have never just had honey suckle. I don’t mind it as much as the others who have had it but it is not my favorite either. I did anticipate floral and sweet honey and while this is sweet, it is not floral. Rather it is vegetal and almost hay/corn-like. A weird green tea/white tea hybrid and yet it is a herbal.

Also, turns out that I am not as immune to caffeine as I once was because I had a few cups of tea earlier in the day and got kind of shakey. That is why I resorted to a herbal tea, still tea but hydrating and unlikely to add to the jitteryness. Plus, I ate food which helped.

So this tasted nothing like I imagined. I was expecting something floral and instead got a serious vegetal wallop. Arby’s tasting notes are spot on. It tastes exactly like okra and raw zucchini. And it was only steeped for a couple of minutes with a small pinch of honeysuckle buds. It was a slightly palatable once diluted a bit. Definitely not my kind of herbal tea despite being caffeine free, at least not when drunk straight. Might taste better sweetened or blended with something else.

It’s like drinking okra water. I’m thinking it might be best cold brewed/served iced with lemon? I’m not really sure what to do with my samples because as much as I like okra and zucchini, vegetable flavoured water is just icky IMO. Maybe I’ll use them in savoury cooking.

This herbal tea called Jin Yin Hua (金银花)in China. If you can’r get used to its taste, you can try add some Chrysanthemums, or Goji for extra taste

Hmm, too bad. The idea of honeysuckle tea sounds delightful.

Iced coldbrew. This is equally gross coldbrewed (although much less flavourful). Vegetal, flavours of zucchini, raw green beans, okra, honeydew rind, grape leaves.

Flavors: Bok Choy, Cucumber, Green Beans, Green Melons, Honeysuckle, Plant Stems, Plants, Vegetables, Vegetal

Have you tried brew it in hot water?

Arby

Yes, I just don’t enjoy vegetal teas. I don’t think honeysuckle buds are something I will be brewing again.

TeaVivre

It’s okay, maybe your tastebud just can’t totally enjoy its taste!

Arby

I’d like to learn to enjoy it, or at least appreciate it more. That’s why I’m trying some more green teas right now.
