From Teavivre

Origin: Mt. Huangshan(黄山) in Anhui Province, China

Ingredients: Tight and thin shape of dry tea leaves, which has Keemun fragrance, a unique fruity flavor mixed with fragrance of sweet potatoes and flower

Taste: It tastes sweet, fruity and floral flavor; smooth and mellow taste in mouth. Aftertaste acts quickly and lasts long

Brew: 2 teaspoons for 17oz of water. Brew at 176℉ ( 80℃) for 1 to 3 minutes (exact time depends on your taste – a longer time will give the tea a stronger taste and color)

Health Benefits: Keemun black tea is fully oxidised, and so does not have the same level of antioxidants as our Green or White teas. However it still makes a great healthy tea to drink, especially if drunk with no or minimal milk and sugar, and provides a great natural source of fluoride and other vitamins.

steepster is making me mad this morning. It won’t let me comment on people’s tasting notes, but it’s hit or miss…so sometimes i can, othertimes i can’t. I WILL NOT BE SILENCED DAMNIT! lol

i am scrambling around like a madwoman today – need to get some work done, pack AGAIN, get ready to leave the house this afternoon and try to at least help my other half with a few things around the house. I feel terrible that he’s on his own all month.

This tea was pulled out because it’s my oldest tea (january) and because i need to finish something things up soon because Terri and Nicole maaay have exploded my cupboard a little…at least it’s largely samples lol

Sil

up to 134… from 95 thanks to you and nicole lol

Angrboda

I didn’t have this problem, but then I’m not a very good commenter either, so I only tried it out once. :/ At least we can post on the boards now. Are you getting TOSed again?

Sil

Tosed?

This was the tea I started my day with! My tea drinking gameplan today had been to sample all of the Keemuns in my collection, so I started with this one. Then I left the house to meet my friend, we lingered over Brekkie until noon, then I ran a few errands, & by the time I got home, I realized that having an all day Keemun day just wasn’t what I wanted to do anymore.
AND guess what….My box from SIL, my awesome steep-sister, came today!!!
And there are a few Keemun samples in there as well!!
Yay!!

looseTman

Which is your favorite Keemun?

Terri HarpLady

LOL, I don’t know! Probably this one, but I was gonna drink them all to figure that out. Eventually I’ll do it, but I just thought of 2 more Keemuns I like that I don’t have right now, hahaha.

Sil

Oh I’m sooooooo glad the box made it! Phew!

looseTman

I’ll be following your Keemun tasting notes along the way.

tigress_al

I am interested to see which keemun is your fav as well.

caile

Me too! I think I have only had this one and liked it a lot!

Terri HarpLady

I dunno if I’ll emerge with an actual favorite, but maybe I’ll be able to pick out the differences between them all :)

caile

Yay! That will be interesting!

Alas! I am out of this one! I think this means I am now officially out of ALL Keemun tea, which means an order is in order. I just placed a Teavivre order but didn’t realize I was so low on this one and didn’t get more. I am considering placing an order for several of their Keemun teas to try side by side.

I served this with Chinese Marbled Tea Eggs and they were delicious. The flavor was much more subtle than I expected, but the great thing is that you don’t need to salt your eggs at all even with the subtle flavor. And they are beautiful! My guest loves eggs so they were a hit with her. I used fresh eggs from my fluffy ladies who live in my backyard. :)

This is a classic Keemun, more wine than smoke, gentler than many and smooth, needing no additions.

TheTeaFairy

Oh, it’s a great idea to compare side by side, I love when people do that:-)

I’ve had only this superfine fragrant and Premium Keemun Hao Ya from Teavivre, and they are the only 2 Keemun I keep in permanent stash cause they are the best I have tried. Very different from one another though.
Can’t wait to read your comparisons!

Amy Alice

IS it really delicious?I don’t know…how can i make with Chinese Marbled Tea Eggs….

TheTeaFairy

Amy Alice, Call me ignorant but I just checked what Chinese marbled tea eggs were cause I had no idea…they look fabulous!!!! Wow, I found an easy recipe with star anise and I am definitely making a batch for the holidays to impress friends and family, thanks for mentioning that. Oh, and yes, this tea is REALLY good, and I think it will be perfect for the eggs…

ashmanra

I hard boiled the eggs. I ran cold water over them and cracked them by tapping them with a spoon, though I have read to use a dinner or butter knife sideways. Then you simmer them for a couple of hours in a water with 1/2 cup of soy sauce, two star anise, some tangerine or orange peel, and a cinnamon stick. I saw one recipe that called for pepper but I didn’t add pepper. I chose to store them in the liquid in the fridge until serving them today but I think you can store them in a container, peeled or unpeeled. I just wanted to see how dark and how strong they would get.

Amy Alice

Oh,Thank you.I also want to enjoy with a cup in this festive season. My request to let me know the recipe for an easy making…

TheTeaFairy

Thanks again Ashmanra for that, I just love what people share on Steepster… The recipe I found seems to be the same as yours!

http://www.everydaymaven.com/2013/how-to-hard-boil-eggs-chinese-tea-eggs/

But I’m thinking Lapsang might even work better, the smokiness should go well with eggs and that list of ingredients. You mention the subtlety, do the different flavours really transfer to the eggs?

ashmanra

I think Lapsang would work well. I saw one blog where they used oolong instead of black tea. They don’t recommend using green because it would become bitter. The eggs really do take on some of the flavor, and more so the longer you soak them. I might try Lapsang nectar time around! Anise was the dominant flavor I got but it really wasn’t overpowering and the eggs just didn’t need salt, perhaps because of the soy sauce?

I wanted something I hadn’t sipped in a while. This one jumped out of the drawer shouting drink me, drink me! Took a scoop and the fragrance of the dry leaf in the press is so good. Cocoa, grain, malt, honey! The sip is smooth. If you avoid Keemun because you think it will be smoky, think again. This just a delicious delight. All the scents are in the taste along with a bit of fruitiness. TeaVivre consistently delivers quality teas and this is an exquisite example. Very high on the yummo scale.

KittyLovesTea

Nice notes, this sounds delicious :) I just added it to my Teavivre basket.

ashmanra

Yes, indeed, this is a king among teas.

K S

This is right up there with Bailin Gonfu, Monkey picked, and Golden Tips. Each kind of similar but different. All excellent.

Sil

Mmmm will need to try this sometime when I get to place a teavivres order

This is so delicious this afternoon!! Smooth and mellow, yet so rich, sweet and full of flavor. Notes of cocoa and light grains with honey and roses. With cream added, it tastes of buttery pastry – so good!

Yvonne

Oh wow – sounds positively amazing!

looseTman

Agreed! Have you also tasted TeaVivre’s Premium Keemun Hao Ya?

caile

Yes, it was really nice. I have had it before but forgot how good it was – I’ll have to order more!

caile

No, I haven’t tried that one, looseTman. I think I have a sample though!

caile

Just checked – I do have a sample pack of that. Do you prefer it?

looseTman

So far I’ve enjoyed 1,500g of their Premium Keemun. However, I haven’t yet tasted the Superfine Keemun. I be curious to hear how you think they compare.

caile

lol, I haven’t tried the premium one yet. I’ll have to compare them though!

looseTman

I’ll keep eye out for your comparison. Thanks!

caile

OK! : )

tigress_al

I had the premium one today, but still have to do a comparison against this one as well! I will be watching for your comparison though

caile

They both seem popular. You’ll have to compare them as well! ;-)

Ahhhhhhh! This smells amazing! Dry…It smells like Sun-Dried-Tomatoes. LOVELY! Post infusion liquid TOTALLY smells like Sweet Potatoes! TOTALLY! COMPLETELY! Sweet Potatoes (even with a little bit of Brown Sugar!)

Taste-wise this has a grainy-texture-E-Malt to it…not like a Standard Malty Black Tea with that sort of mouth-feel (as much as I hate that term LOL) and it doesn’t have a Bakey-Cakey sort of malt to it either. It’s different but good.

It’s slightly brash but in a good way. There is a gentle burnt-toast and smoky flavor to it too! The end of the sip on to the after taste it has a quick pop of various fruit flavors that is neat!

This is Awesomely Flavorful and Memorable! Two thumbs up! If I had 3 Thumbs…I give it 3 Thumbs up!

Hmm… has the enchantment of black tea love come to an end or have I just been having a series of less than awesome blacks lately? This one tastes a little…not interesting. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t capture my attention in any way. I get a little floral perfume and taste of malt… Some fragrant sweetness. Vaguely stone fruity. My tastebuds are not all that interested.

So far, the black teas I like and plan to get more of are:
Laoshan black – Verdant
Zhu Rong Yunnan black – Verdant
Yun nan Dian Hong Black- Golden Tip – Teavivre
Rose Congou – Upton

Looks like I like Yunnan black teas. The Laoshan black is still my favorite. hmm… I’ll still have try the other Keemuns from Teavivre. I also have some other congou tea from Upton to try. I wonder where congou tea is grown? Is it also Keemun as wikipedia seems to suggest?

KittyLovesTea

As far as I understand it Congou is a grade of Keemun that has small leaves. I also believe that Congou Keemun is a mixture of both Congou and Keemun, in some area’s they have cultivated plants from both to create the one. I keep seeing it set out like a maths question such as ‘Are all Congou Keemun tea’s Congou or Keemun?’ or ‘All Congou Keemun’s are Keemun but not all Keemun’s are Coungou Keemun’s’. lol. Not sure if anyone else can shed some light on this but I am to believe that all three (Congou, Keemun and Congou Keemun) are all separate.

Mercuryhime

wow, thanks for the info! I’ll just have to drink more of all kinds to learn the taste difference. :)

Terri HarpLady

I’m also hooked on Yunnans. I do enjoy a variety of others, and I try not to compare, but it always comes back to things like Laoshan Black, Yhu Rong…you know…

Thanks to Teavivre for this sample!

I’ve heard so many good things about this tea, I was excited to get to try it. It’s beautiful and chocolatey and kind of bready. It’s sweet. There’s a tiny bit of smoke, but it’s sweet. Fantastic!

Starting my Sunday off with a nice big pot of this. As much as I want to get out of the house after being sick all week I would really love to stay home all the time. It was nice. But I am going a little stir crazy. That and I think I may have watched everything Netflix had to offer on instant play!

Right the tea! My sense of smell is still a little shot…so the dry leaf smelled like nothing at all. But as the tea steeped? It certainly smelled like honey and very sweet. Which I didn’t notice the first time I had this tea. It smells SO good. I brewed this up in a glass tea pot so I really got to see the great copper/fall liquid of this tea. The taste is slightly sweet and very malty. Now back to the laundry and NaNoWriMo already in progress. :)

Wow I am super jazzed from this one cup. Yikes! Good thing I poured the rest into a soup I’m making.

TeaBrat

Interesting – keemun soup?

IllBeMother221B

Nope. Veggie soup. But I added it to the stock/broth I was using to cook the soup in.

Thanks teavivre, for the sample

Dry leaf: The leaves are really small, dark brown twisted leaves. The smell is really nice. It has a dark black tea smell, but that is underneath the sweetness that this tea possesses. It has a chocolatey smell but the strongest smell is a certain sweetness. It reminds me of the roses my grandma grows in her garden. It’s a deep rose smell though, more than a floral smell.

Wet leaf: When wet, the rose smell comes out really strong. If I didn’t know better I would think that I was steeping rose buds. The rose combined with chocolate makes this smell like a nice dessert. It has a dark sweetness that gives it a very moisturizing smell.

Taste: The taste is nice. It is a lot lighter than I expected and very sweet. The chocolatey flavor reminded me of a much lighter version of the Fengqing dragon pearl. On top of that is the sweet rose flavor. It has a deep flavor, despite how light it is.

I really enjoyed this tea. It was nice how soothing the tea was and I can’t wait to brew it again.

Terri HarpLady

That sounds really tasty!

Insence&Tea

Ya it was really good. I’m already trying to scrounge up some money so I can buy more, haha

Nik

Mmm…roses!
