Description

Light-medium roasted Tieguanyin Oolong from Anxi, China. A fairly green oolong with a delightfully floral aroma.
Tieguanyin oolongs are native to Fujian province in China. Legend has it that the tea received its name many centuries ago when a farmer tending a temple with an iron statue of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of compassion, fell in dire needs of funds to repair the temple. He prayed to the statue and went to bed. That night in a dream the Bodhisattva appeared and told him that all he needed would be growing on a cliff in the mountain behind the temple. The next morning, he climbed to that cliff, and he found a wild tea plant which he transplanted and grown at the temple. He named it the Tieguanyin tea, after the iron statue, and it became so popular that sales from the tea helped repair the temple. Tieguanyin is also sometimes spelled as Tikuanyin, Tiquanyin, Tikwanyin, or sometimes translated into English as Iron Goddess Oolong.
