Like the big smoke, this brew is bold, brisk and smoky. A bergamot edge rounds the whole thing out.

This one is simply an Earl Grey. It’s funny how the reviews are all over the place, with some saying it’s too weak and others too strong, both for the tea and the bergamot. The world would be such a boring place if we all had the same tastes though, wouldn’t it?
To me, it’s neither weak not strong. The black tea doesn’t have a ton of flavor to it, it’s sort of that generic “black tea” taste that I associate with grocery store breakfast teabags. I do think there’s at least some Sri Lankan tea included, because it has that sort of acidic/metallic combo going on. A little bit astringent, but not overly so. The bergamot is what I would call moderate, it’s very present and definitely makes this an Earl Grey, but it’s not super in-your-face. I’m thankful for that, as I don’t love strong bergamot teas.
It’s a serviceable Earl, but nothing special. I’ll probably enjoy the rest as a few London fogs, since I don’t tend to drink this sort of tea plain.

It’s kind of boring, to be honest, but it’s not unpleasant. I honestly don’t know why I remembered it as such – even my last tasting note doesn’t support that memory.
Anyway, thank you for sharing *VariaTEA – it was a perfectly fine tea to start my day with. Just brisk enough to fit the breakfast tea labeling, in my opinion.
I have 4 more exams – 1 Monday, 1 Wednesday, and 1 Friday. The last is the following Monday. I was worried about the Wednesday exam the most because it is for the class that had the most difficult midterm last semester and I had not even started studying for it. I allotted today and tomorrow for that exam (technically I guess it was yesterday and today now since its 12:20) and when I woke up at 11, I was kicking myself for sleeping half the day away. However, I got through 5/10 lectures today and that was my goal so I treated myself to an earl grey hot chocolate. It was ever so tasty.

Thank you! I don’t know why I put myself through this sometimes. It is so draining to do nothing but look at cases for 3 weeks straight…probably longer.
I had expected this to be a strong black breakfast tea. However is more like an early grey. Someone else described this as a weak early grey and thats what it is. Very pleasant, tastes fresh and great for a morning tea, to gulp down. Just not what I was expecting.
