GREEN BAMBOO
Sichuan Province, China
Zhu Ye Qing
Reminiscent of a cool, refreshing bamboo forest, this early harvest Chinese Green Tea is bursting with vitali-tea. Plump, vibrant green leaves are ultra-rich in chlorophyll. Since this tea is picked early in the season, it has a particularly high anti-oxidant value – every cup you sip is brimming with benefits.
Green Bamboo tea was originally produced by monks at a temple on E Mei Mountain, in Sichuan Province. They served the tea to a visiting general who felt that the emerald green tea leaves resembled fresh bamboo, and so this is how the tea’s name came to be. Zhu Ye Qing means “Green Bamboo”. It is made with tea leaves from the Ming Shan #9 tea cultivar.
This delicate yet refreshing tea has a bright, fresh aroma, and smooth, vegetal flavour. Handmade and dried in a wok by artisan Teamaker Pan de Yong, the tea leaves bear the flattened impression of his hand. Green Bamboo is now grown and produced on Meng Ding Mountain, Sichuan Province, which is located near E Mei Mountain, the original birthplace of the tea.
To maximize the tea’s delicate flavour, brew in a light to medium weight gaiwan, or a fine porcelain tea set.
Additional Brewing Instructions: To brew this tea in a classic Chinese style, use 1 tbsp. for 2 cups of tea. Use water well below the boiling point. Steep for 1.5 to 2 minutes, and strain. Re-infuse up to 4 or 5 times, increasing the steeping time and water temperature slightly with each infusion.
