EU TTB BOX – ROUND 3 RETURN

Something to sip while I replace the pictures on my website. A few weeks ago Tea Trade had a bug and in turn all of their users pictures were deleted. Three years of pictures deleted….and I found out the day before my birthday when I was ill. Not the greatest time for me right now but I’m getting on with it. Each page takes roughly 30 minutes to update with the new pictures so I have my hands full.

The raw leaves smell herbal, tart and fruity – particularly berry and lemon like.

Once steeped the tea is red/pink and has a tart berry scent, matching it’s raw form.

In flavour this is very mild with dominant lemongrass tones, some sweetness and a herbal after taste. Also getting some tart hibiscus after a few more sips.

As it cools the tartness reduces a little, though on the whole it’s still a lemongrass and hibiscus dominant blend.

Glad I only had a sample of this one, as much as I love lemongrass I happen to dislike hibiscus (for the most part) and this blend is nothing above average for me. Drinkable and enjoyable but not something I would want more of. Just as well I suppose, considering River Tea has since closed.

Another cup last night, this time hot with no additions. I went back to basics and followed the recommended parameters – 2 tsp of leaf in boiling water for 5 minutes. There’s still not all that much in the way of lemon – certainly nowhere near as much as I’d like – but I could taste it just slightly in the background. A mildly bitter, slightly waxy, lemon peel kind of flavour. Mostly, though, this one’s hibiscus. I’ll probably finish this one off cold brewed tomorrow. It’s not terrible, but I won’t be all that sad once it departs my cupboard.

I really like this tea with a bit of honey. Without the honey, the lemon is a little tart and hard to take. With the honey, it softens in to a really deliciously sweet, refreshing, lemon tea. Not sure if i’d restock it again but i wouldn’t turn away a cup.

Grabbed a sample of this from Cavocorax’s tin and all I can say is “whoa, lemon!”. Thank you Cavo!

Another first tasting note!

I coldbrewed this in my iced tea pitcher, but I left the leaf in for too long – over a day. This led to it tasting quite bitter. I’ve added some honey to the rest of the pitcher to see if it evens things out, but at this point, aside from the bitterness, it’s a pretty generic-tasting lemon/rosehip blend. Surprisingly, I’m not getting much mint, but I’m also not getting any licorice, which I’m grateful for.
