From Puerh Junky

Dai Country Tribute raw puerh is crafted from select large-leaf Banzhang material using traditional processing methods. To the wrapper’s center left is the certified organic emblem, colloquially known as “the big cabbage” (大白菜).

As for storage, Dai Country Tribute bears no signs of humidity while exhibiting clear signs of age. It could be considered ideal dry storage, even preserving the floral character while allowing for the development of a complexity of tastes. These range from the extravagant dulce de leche sweetness to dry hay to malt to crayolas, and even shades of sour followed by menthol cooling. Overall, it rests squarely in the Floral Class. The mouthfeel is full and the astringency balancing given its incredible sweetness. It’s quite filling and the chest-expanding yet relaxing qi start to come on by about the second infusion.

This treasure hails from Banzhang Zhengshan TF (BZZS). As opposed to developing a brand personae through a huge marketing budget, it is committed to offering high quality puerh mostly from the Banzhang/Bulang terroirs. They are mostly recognizable by the hat-clad Dai girl amidst a thicket of tea and banana leaves. A number of their offerings are enthusiastically included in the Puerh Junky Collection.

Dai Country Tribute performs best in purple clay. About 5.5g to 150 ml should be more than sufficient given a pot’s moderately slow pour rate. Acquired Nov ’21.

Last of the samples from PJ. This one is sold out in cake form. Definitely a nice tea I’m glad I got to try. Will enjoy drinking the rest of the sample for sure, but I probably wouldn’t have caked it even if there were any left.

Smooth drinker with no bitterness and medium-low astringency, but flavor is fairly weak and hard to decipher. My palate may have been having an off-day, though. Tea seemed to peter out after 8-9 infusions. Mouthfeel is at least very full, creamy, and intriguing. Don’t get any dulce de leche notes as PJ lists on his website, but certainly some cream flavors and hints of vanilla. Will certainly enjoy drinking the rest of the sample.

My experience with this PJ sampler was fun and certainly worth it. It has been interesting to try teas from a boutique factory. I plan to order more from him in the future.
