Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge Saturday, May 22nd: National Vanilla Pudding Day Tea #1

Thanks very much, AJRimmer!  As soon as I saw the Vanilla challenge I knew I would have this one.  It’s not quite half black tea mixed with rooibos and so many of those little toffee cubes!  I’m so surprised the cup wasn’t sweeter than it is.  It really should be… so many sugar cubes.  The main flavor is rooibos.  Maybe at the top of the mug was the most vanilla flavored, but it was hardly flavored at all.  Maybe that is why the rooibos was used, in the hopes of taming the depth of the black tea to have more of the vanilla peak out? Hardly a SUNDAE tea!  A sundae certainly needs more than plain vanilla ice cream… Hardly even a plain vanilla ice cream tea here! On the second steep, those sugar cubes HAD to have disintegrated into the mug, so I’m not sure what was going on… tasted like a cup of plain rooibos.  It wasn’t bad though.
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for full mug // 21 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 5 minute steep

#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #119 overall / Tea #35 for March

Sunday 3/28/21 — PudTea Vanilla Sundae. I’ve been lucky this year to have received, waiting to arrive, or in future will hopefully be receiving tea mail from various online tea friends… I’m actually going to do my Mastress Alita April sipdown challenge (the A-Z list of teas) just using teas I’ve gotten from these fun swaps! (or at least the best I can, still missing a few letters) — Anyway, this is a tea in my most recent mail [which was AJRimmer thank you!] I just had a long busy tiring weekend from work and wanted to make something hot/easy at home and lay down on the couch. I made this as a hot latte, but this just tasted like rooibos to be honest (I took a few small sips before adding milk), was not getting any of the black tea or fudge pieces.

This is basically just vanilla rooibos with black tea mixed in. There are cubes of fudge, but they didn’t seem to do anything. I’ve had much better vanilla rooibos teas, so I’m not too pleased with this one. It was pretty thin and lacking in flavor. It certainly didn’t live up to its name. Milk made it a little more exciting, but not much. I ate the melty fudge bits after my tea was finished steeping, so that was fun.

Latte Sipdown (288)

This tea has such a strong rooibos flavor that I hoped a latte would help soften the rooibos and bring out the vanilla.

I pulled this out since today’s september sipdown is about dessert teas. With that in mind, I topped this latte with whipped cream and caramel and chocolate syrup. It was an alright drink. The chocolate pulled out some vanilla fudge notes which were nice but overall it was still a lot of rooibos flavor.

Fun to try but not a tea I will be looking for again.

One of my morning cuppas today…

I steeped this one of those paper “fill your own” teabags today, and I decided to leave the teabag in as it steeped to see if it would get stronger/thicker as I remembered the flavour being a little lack luster the first time I tried it.

It’s honestly not bad, but it definitely isn’t exactly “rich”. I get some sweetness and creaminess from the melted down “fudge bits” in the blend and it’s loosely vanilla flavoured but mostly this tastes like a rich, sweetened take on a rooibos. It’s pleasant, and I do love the taste of a nice mildly sweetened rooibos – especially one that’s creamier. I just really wish that this Vanilla Sundae blend tasted more like, y’know, Vanilla.

I think I’m going to try and focus on sipping this one down before the end of the month.
