Hojicha is a specially roasted green tea and is a commonly enjoyed beverage in Japan. It has a low caffeine content (much removed during roasting) and is served to accompany meals. The tea is produced using the 3rd flush of the Bancha leaf. The leaves are steamed and dried and then roasted over a low heat. This low roasting temperature imparts a sweet taste and nice fresh aroma. This process results in a tea with a reddish colour and light cup with a very unique flavour. Also great as an iced tea.
