“The leaves are black, full, and uniform as they are sprinkled into the tea pot. The fragrance is malty, slightly smoky, loamy, slightly sweet and herbaceous. Steeping at just one teaspoon per six...” Read full tasting note
This tea was originally created to satisfy the growing demand for black tea in Japan. But we liked it so much when we visited Nandana that we decided to bring it to the American market. It is a whole leaf tea, as opposed to Nandana’s Broken Leaf Ceylons. This means it is a bit lighter with a more delicate flavor. It can hold up to milk, but is most often enjoyed simply with sugar or plain. Nandana is located in the low-lying Matara district, situated in Akuressa, bordering the Nilwala Ganga (Blue River). Nandana makes premium orthodox black tea, maintaining the old tradition of preserving intrinsic aroma, taste and quality. They process about 165 thousand Kilos of green leaf monthly under the proficient guidance of its managing director, Mr. Gunasoma Wanigasekara. The factory gets its leaves from about 1000 small family farmers in the area.
