Slightly sweet and smoky, Gunpowder Extra Choice Tea takes its name from the appearance of its tightly hand-rolled leaves, as well as the faint cracking said to be heard as the leaves unfurl in water.
Gunpowder green tea gets its name from the shape of the leaves, so tightly rolled they resemble the pellets used as musket shot. The taste is mildly astringent and grassy, and yields a slightly smoky aroma.
