Surprisingly robust for a green-black blend, with malty black teas, roasted oolongs, and smoky gunpowder, for an intriguing cup that tastes a bit like whole-grain toast.
Originally blended: 2023
Conceived alongside Poet’s Blend, Bard’s Blend is a toasty, medium-bodied green-black blend. This tea blends nutty, peppery Chinese black teas with bold and malty Assam. What makes it truly special is the addition of traditionally roasted oolong teas, adding a tantalizing, comforting aroma and robust taste. Paired with lighter, buttery oolongs, and the addition of faintly smoky gunpowder green tea makes for a complex, flavourful tea.
Tasting Notes: Initial sip of gentle roast, melting into toasted grains and malt. These linger with savoury notes of vegetable broth, and a light buttery mouthfeel. The finish is brisk but smooth, with a prevailing roasted note amongst the flavours of broth, barley, toasted grains and butter. The result is a tea that is easily best described as buttered toast.
Ingredients: Black tea (Ceylon, Keemun, Assam, Yunnan), roasted oolong tea, gunpowder green tea.
And here I was hoping for a review in iambic pentameter. Or at least some decent rhyming! I like Assam-forward teas, but they should at least buoy the mood! ;-)
the moodShall I compare thee to a plain Assam?
Thou art lovely, but not complicated…
(Sorry, couldn’t resist :)
Hahahahahaha, thanks, gmathis!
