“The last japanese tea from 2022 for me is also the only Gyokuro I had this year. It is not as intensely savoury and thick as traditional gyokuro tends to be. Rather, I find it to have a relatively...” Read full tasting note
Very good Japanese, shaded Gyokuro type green tea from an organic garden in Satsuma, Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū. The specificity of this gyokura is that it is from the Tsuyuhikari cultivar, which is almost exclusively used for Sencha-type teas.
Tsuyuhikari is a relatively rare cultivar, more popular in Shizuoka. It is the result of crossing Asatsuya, the “natural gyokuro” and Shizu-7132, an unregistered cultivar with a unique cherry blossom aroma.
Thanks to this, this gyokuro has unique floral notes combined with a typical umami taste and a more pronounced sweetness.
Harvest: Ichibancha (Spring) 2022
Area: Satsuma/Kagoshima
