From Liquid Proust Teas

This is a blend created by putting together my best friends favorite taste.
Yunnan gold tea and gold pu’erh was covered in kemmun and coffee to absorb flavor. After a week the mixture was shaken free of all the ground material (some remains) and dried grapefruit was added.

Ingredients: Gold Yunnan tea, Golden pu’erh, keemun, coffee, grapefruit

This stuff is the truth! If you are a person who enjoys both the malty goodness of black tea and also the smokiness of a good coffee, this is a great blend for you. There is a hint of the grapefruit in there to give it a citrus bittersweet note but it is not overpowering. In fact, everything here blends together to create a nicely done tea. I’m glad I bought 2 portions of this!

wishlist sample from dexter! this one was pretty tasty earlier today. I really love puerh and coffee and found this tea to be pretty damn tasty. As others have said, i didn’t really register the grapefruit exactly but the coffee came through as well as the cacao from the teas and the sort of maltiness blending things together. Enjoyed a few steeps of this before taking rental dog out for his hike in the woods off leash :)

I’m a huge fan of coffee flavored teas – Davids Coffee Pu’erh is one of my secret guilty pleasure and I really really miss HI Moosetracks. When I saw this as an offering from Liquid Proust, had to try it.
MMMMmmmmmmmm awesome. This is everything it should be. Dark and rich. It has a really thick mouthfeel. The coffee is present without being overly bitter or beating you over the head. The black base adds some dark chocolate notes. The pu’erh is more subtle but it adds some really nice earthiness and depth. I was really worried about the grapefruit (I don’t normally do well with citrus in tea), and while I don’t really taste it as grapefruit, there is a light acidic note in the back that breaks up the heaviness of the black and pu’erh. I think it’s one of those things that I woudn’t have understood what it was (without being told) but would miss it if it was taken out of the blend.
For my tastes this is almost perfect – well balanced, flavors as they should be. This is one that just makes me happy. :)

Btw, have you ever tried Bayswater’s Chocolate Macchiato? That’s my favourite coffee-flavoured tea!

Dexter

I have not tried the Bayswater one. I just went and read the tasting notes and it looks like something that could replace Moosetracks. On the wishlist it goes. Thanks for the suggestion. :))

Fjellrev

Yeah, it has way more flavour than Moosetracks, IMO. :)

Sil

you’re making me totally jealous! wish i’d had a moment to order these from LP when he made it worthwhile for canucks :(

Had this today and yesterday and it is still great. I can enjoy the energy jolt I need for a workout and the taste of coffee without the jitters thanks to my friend, L-Theanine. I’m also really glad that this has been getting decent reviews.

Rasseru

nice. I shall have to try this, LP order coming up I think

It is a bit bitter and acidic, but the Dian Hong he uses helps smooth it out. I personally taste the grapefruit especially from the acidity, but a lot of people on here only taste it in increments. Are you or were you a coffee drinker? If so, this is your tea.

Rasseru

I was, actually. Also tea but I do miss a good coffee – i used to drink a lot but now my body goes into the jitters with one cup. Even decaf I notice unpleasantness. Idk what it is

Daylon R Thomas

Same. It depends on the type of coffee for me. If it’s a sugared up latte or cappucion, I get some twitches, but only some. Kona so far is the only black coffee that hasn’t effected me badly in one cup lately. It’s why I turn to tea and some blacks or yan cha’s because some are closer to coffee in taste.

Rasseru

All of them so far have made me feel bad – sometimes an instant coffee has been ok-ish. I think I’m going to investigate further, go to a coffee forum. Theres nothing like a good cappuccino. Just once in a while when I want one would be ok with me.

Rasseru

I did have something that was really close to coffee the other day – It might have been a dian hong. I cant remember what it was as ive been bust working. But its in my drinking stash, i’ll try to figure it out.

My best friend came over which means I could finally drink the blend inspired by her taste buds :)
While we knew it would taste good, we both had to drink around 6 cups of this to play around with the temperature and times. In the end it is a tricky tea to brew, but even as someone who hates coffee I find myself liking this tea. The grapefruit isn’t noticeable, but it can be eaten after its been brewed :)
My best friend was really diligent with tasting through this and I’m going to let her decide the steeping advice.
