Naka Ancient Tree Sheng
Spring 2018 Harvest
1700-1800 metres

A ‘bud-heavy’ beauty from ancient rtees from a region that our producer loves, Naka, this offering is a freshly caked 2018 spring sheng, bristling with fresh clean tones. The greater Meng Song region, in which Naka rests, is one of the highest Puerh growing regions in Yunnan, cresting close to 2400 metres, and rates as one of the most ancient sources of the leaf. What stands out in this particular Naka is the percentage of lighter coloured buds within the cake which adds some floral power to the offering. Naka, like the entire Meng Song mountain region generally is known for strength and even with this higher end bud content, still carries some of the wonderful inherent power in it.

Drinking this tea today, I noticed some mild sour fermentation note and the flavours to be a bit muted overall. There is a touch more sweetness in the aftertaste, of the tree sap kind. Other than that, the experience matches my earlier encounters of it – with strong mineral, herbal bitterness in the center of the stage.
