Our Organic Sencha Superior’s tea leaves are sprouts that are fully-grown Ichibancha (the first pick of the year). Therefore this tea is more modestly priced than our Organic Sencha Premium, and has a much richer taste and aroma than most other grades of Organic Sencha. This item is also suitable for organic tea lovers to drink every day!
Our Organic Sencha Superior is certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan. They are grown with only natural organic fertilizers and no agricultural chemicals or pesticides.
In Japan, we say “Daichi tono Kakutoh” to describe traditional organic farming. “Daichi tono Kakutoh” means that it takes a lot of time and great effort to grow organic green tea. There are only a few farmers that produce organic green tea in a small part of Kyoto.
Generally speaking, it is difficult to bring out a mellow flavor and ideal astringent aroma from Organic Sencha. However this special tea has both of these characteristics, brought about by geographical features of the Ujitawara region in Uji, which is known as a central area of rare high grade Sencha production.
Long ago before modern agricultural chemicals and techniques, high quality Sencha must have been similar in taste and aroma to this fine organic green tea.
