Afternoon Blend

A bright, light bodied tea, with a light malt and prunes flavor,and a little astringency. Not sure that it has enough body to hold up well against milk. My mother likes light teas, and I’m drinking this at my parents’ house. It’s a solid-but-not-so-exciting tea. Suitable for drinking in the afternoon, during a Friday visit to your parents, with the sound of children playing bouncing up trough the window

Steeped lightly and servered with milk reveals the soft and subtle notes within this great tea.

Sipdown! (40 | 40)

This was fine. I’m not a Ceylon fan, so it was never going to be my favorite. It is fairly smooth at least, with hints of wood and bread. Mostly it tastes like Ceylon though, tea-ish (lol) with a metallic edge and some astringency at the end. I found this one didn’t take milk that well either, it tasted a bit bland compared to the other Fortnum black blends I’ve had that way.

Anyway, another one done at least!

Fortnum Advent Day 2

There are two entries for this tea. The other is under the name Afternoon Blend which is probably the correct name, and only has one review, so I chose to put this here.

My first tea was Breakfast, which was exactly as advertised but is definitely not my favorite type of tea. As expected, this was very similar but lighter.

I did sip it before eating so the flavor wouldn’t be muddied by the food, and it had that bright and coppery taste I associate with Ceylon tea. (I do enjoy low and mid-elevation Ceylons but high grown are too minty and astringent for me.) It is a little malty but I didn’t feel like the only way to get it down was with milk and sugar. (Breakfast Blend without food would deffo be with milk and possibly sugar, too.)

With food, this is quite nice. It serves the purpose of a breakfast tea and while it is muted with the food because the sharp edges are dulled, it has the gumption to still have flavor.

I agree with Ros on this one. If I am going to pay Fortnum prices, I want one of their unique blends. I can get plenty of breakfast and afternoon tea that I enjoy more than this one for less cost.

Since they recommend it iced, that is where the last of this is going.

Tldr: Better than Breakfast Blend, not as good as Queen Anne. Just my opinion.

A tea bag that I had in my drawer instead of huge bags, but comes from the latter.

It is overcast, with little rain, a bank holiday (patron of Bohemia, St. Wenceslas, was killed 1085 years ago by his brother), sad day… heading to work this afternoon.

Tomorrow a new semester starts. I was promising myself I will clean up my desk so I could work as needed, as we will stay at home and have distance learning. Nope.

Tea review down from this line
The tea is same as last time (tea bag version). Typical black tea with some bitterness, quite tannic and not much of malty. They say it is light and refreshing and well, I don’t much think so.

I feel overall somehow quite down, like the little kid who realised that his vacation is over, my mother said me that I am kind of sponger of family, I am doing nothing to pay family bills and I am trading on that I am the youngest. I must say it hit me terrilbly and although I am sure she didn’t meant it necessary in a bad way, it is something you really don’t want to hear!

So, I spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening over at a friend/coworker’s house playing board game with her and her boyfriend – we also drank a ton of tea. Surprisingly she’s not a massive tea drinker (though she does drink some tea), but her boyfriend is VERY into tea – namely British tea, though he’s trying to branch out.

So he got to try a bunch of tea from my collection, and in return he made sure I had a bottomless mug of tea from their collection throughout the entire night. This was the first thing he made for me, steeped extra strong with milk and sugar. I told him he could basically make me whatever he wanted, however he wanted to steep it and I would happily drink it. I think he had a lot of fun with that.

I thought this was pretty good – in all honesty it’s not a type of tea that I would probably purchase for myself, especially because I find Fortnum & Mason quite expensive for the quality of the tea, so if I’m going to buy something from F&M I want it to be one of their more unique offerings. This is his favourite tea company, though, and respectfully it’s a solid cup of black tea. Full bodied, malty, and not too sweet – as a classic cuppa I can see the appeal.

I enjoyed this tea to the last cup. It’s a mild tea and, like it’s name says, perfect for afternoon consumption. I often enjoyed mine with a touch of milk and sugar. Definitely be careful not to oversteep it. Otherwise it can be bitter.

This is a nice light black tea. It’s got just a little bit of astringency and some pleasing stone fruit undertones. Not one of those teas that hits you over the head with its bold flavors, but makes for a really pleasant cup. I don’t drink Ceylon very often—when I go for black teas, I’m usually drawn to bold, malty Assams or, on the other hand, astringent, floral Darjeelings—but this blend has me thinking I shouldn’t be so quick to overlook it as the boring middle-ground option.

Plum and fruity tones- almost like a fruitcake in the background. Note of honey sweetness. Barn-y, almost bitter note near the end of the sip. Make me think of copper when I drink it.

Second infusion at 4 minutes with same temperature. The astringency is softened. Still has nice flavour.

This is a clean, light tea, with some maltiness. Nice Balanced natural flavors~ I tend to like flavored Black Teas but I think this is an excellent straight, afternoon tea.
