The Decaffeinated Darjeeling Tea blend from English Tea Store is the cachet of a Darjeeling with hints of muscatel flavor but no caffeine. The decaffeination process used for this Darjeeling stands up to traditional quality specifications, and is processed using CO2. No chemical solvents are used in the removal of the caffeine, but rather high pressure and temperature is used to extract the caffeine. The character is slightly changed, but the end result is an uncompromising cuppa with no chemical overtones.
For the best brew, we recommend our Decaffeinated Darjeeling steep in water that has been brought to a rolling boil for 2-5 minutes.
Ingredients: Decaffeinated black tea
Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of tea for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea). Pour into your cup and add milk and sugar to taste.
Iced tea-brewing method:(to make 1 liter/quart): Place 6 teaspoons of tea into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water.]

For a tea that is supposedly the Champagne of Teas I found this rather unremarkable. It didn’t have an overly strong aroma or taste and I wonder if the process to make this decaffeinated might have something to do with that.
I don’t find this to be undrinkable, but I have certainly had much better darjeeling teas.
Decaf process pretty much always makes tea sadder, yeah. It’s nearly impossible to find a really good decaf black—personally I’ve learned to just drink stuff that naturally doesn’t have caffeine to begin with if that’s a restriction. I adore darjeeling and the idea of a company ruining one by decaffeinating it bums me out. Just my two cents.
I assumed that was probably the case. I generally stick to herbals if I need something caffeine free because I’m not comfortable with the processes used to decaffeinate tea.
