Description

Varietal: Green tea
Origin: Xin Yang, Henan
Harvest: 2011
Taste: Herbaceous, citrus, sweet, light, nutty
Aroma: Very fragrant, spring grass, forest
Leaf: Very small curled buds
Notes: Compared to most green tea, Mao Jian has really small buds about 0.5-1 inch making it a very labor intensive tea. Each tea picker might only harvest 4-5 pounds on a good day. Its dark green look clearly represents floral and forestry taste. Grown in High Mountains of Xin Yang, the tea experiences sequential days of fog and rainfall. Grown in very acidic soil, rocky, and heavily forested region of Henan. Harvested right before monsoons. Interesting note is that this tea dates back to 875 BCE when archaeologist discovered this tea when excavating a tomb. I personally like to call this tea “Green Mist”.
