So this is a tasty hojicha. The roast is light enough not to be overwhelming but deep enough to have some nice caramelized notes.
However, I don’t really get much apple at all. There is some sweetness, but I think that’s from the maple crystals. There’s a hint of apple, but I don’t think I would know it was there if I drank this blind. Also, why no spices for an apple turnover tea?
Anyway, it’s pleasant to drink but only because of the hojicha base. Not something I would reorder.

Love love love the base of this tea – a very pleasant, roasty hojicha. The flavouring leaves a bit to be desired though – I heavily oversteeped the tea, and even then didn’t get much apple, but it was somewhat sweet (pleasantly so, and acceptable as it’s also not artificial). So I enjoyed it as a sweet hojicha, but not really apple turnover. Certainly will be happy to drink the rest though, because I loooove hojicha. :D

I feel like I see so many mixed reviews of the Dessert by Deb teas. As a whole, do you like them? I’ve been hesitant to place an order since they seem hit or miss.
I really do like Dessert by Deb, and would recommend giving Deb’s blends a try. There have been some blends that I pretty strongly dislike, but overall I find her blends favorable and fun to try.
I like trying her blends, but if I’m honest there are very few I would order.

The hojicha is nice; it’s a pleasant light to medium roast with some brassy mineral notes to it in addition to that charred nuttiness. The apple is present, but a little flat – definitely tastes me of dehydrated apple slices than a more caramelized and rich “baked apple” flavour. I got a hint of the spice and a faint taste of maple. I think with some doctoring up I could make this into a very nice cuppa, but as is there are elements that just seem to be lacking some life.
