Gongfu – in my little hojicha dedicated yixing teapot!
Sipping liquid gold this afternoon! This is the hojicha from the recent “Garden to Cup” Winter subscription; it’s a nice medium roast with particularly sweet and golden nutty notes of pecan and hazelnut with a more red fruit and nori undertone and a silky cocoa butter finish! Despite not being a big green tea drinker, I have a deep love for Hojicha and I was particularly excited to see the inclusion of one in our first Garden to Cup sub box. It’s warm, toasty comfort on this rainy Saturday!
Aside from gongfu it also makes an excellent cozy Western style mug of tea. Steep hot and quick for more roast and low and slow for a bit more of the nori/oceanic greener notes. Solid hojicha latte, also!
My personal wish is that we see this delightful straight tea extend past the subscription box and make an appearance in the main assortment; and it would be a dream to have a core straight hojicha in the line up. I also just in general want to see more blends that incorporate hojicha in them; it’s a delightful base and could really diversify the green tea assortment.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
