The second new tea that came out for Mother’s Day!!
Like I said with my tasting note on Youth Blossom, I’m not personally a big fan of either of these two teas but this is definitely the one that I prefer. A thing to note, this is not only the second aloe tea of the year but it’s the second Dragonfruit Aloe blend – however the two blends are INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT tasting/not the same. I’ve seen a couple people confused about whether this was a rename of Dragonfruit Aloe or a reformulation of it. Nope – they are different teas!
So, that said, what does this taste like!?
Well, it’s definitely fruity but in a way that really hearkens back to an old DT blend for me; The Glow!! It’s not just because there’s some obvious name overlap, but more because these are both fruity rooibos based blends that approach that fruity profile from both a more generic/non-specific type of way (I don’t personally think this tastes super clearly like dragonfruit – certainly less than Dragonfruit Aloe/Pitaya Power/Magic Dragon) but that are also a little lighter, a little milder, and that have more of a light herbal undertone – in this case from the nettle. It’s just a TINY by creamy, from the aloe, but I probably wouldn’t describe “creamy” as one of the main attributes. It’s also a little bit floral, but I probably also wouldn’t describe that floral note as a main part of the blend.
The Glow really was an enigma in that it was kind of this hodge podge of many different flavour profiles/types without truly being any of them and it’s the kind of blend that in my mind was simultaneously no ones favourite tea but the type of tea you could serve to just about anyone and they would like it. This gives me those exact same vibes; I’d call it a spiritual successor to The Glow!
And, just ‘cause I feel like I need to say it, isn’t the popped rice in this weird!? Like, you can’t taste it at all but it looks so weird and out of place with everything else in this tea! It’s just strange.
Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
