Another new tea from DT that launched today; as I mentioned in my tasting note for DT’s new Bubble Gum Matcha (which contains a master list of all the new teas that came out today and their availability/seasonality) this is part of the Spring/Summer flip and will be around for an extended time period – but ultimately, as of right now, it’s still not a permanent tea…
I kind of like to this of this blend as the spiritual successor to La La Lemon. Of course, La La Lemon is still available in the US right now – but this is sort of that idea of a lemon black tea but kicked up a notch in terms of vibrant flavour, fun visual, and creativity. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not a huge fan of La La Lemon and for me personally I think this is an improvement! It’s zesty and tart, but still has approachable sweetness and it REALLY thirst quenching as an iced tea. I like the lingering flavour of the lemon after I take a sip, as well. Plus, it’s the first tea from DT with pomelo! How fun is that!? I love when DT introduces new ingredients/flavours, and I really appreciate the twist on citrus/lemonade. I’m still a bit hesitant about there actually being a need for so many “Lemonade teas” in general, but at least there’s a differentiating element for this blend compared to all the other lemon black teas out there.
I can appreciate that there are people who really like the simplicity of La La Lemon and how it’s such a clean and pure take on a lemon black tea, so I see where people might find disappointment in this blend if that’s the flavour profile that they’re seeking out (personally, I think Tea Kruthki’s Lemon Kandy blend is my ideal tea for that type of flavour profile). However, I’ve found La La Lemon temperamental when it comes to brewing and very pithy, drying and astringent. I don’t experience that with this tea. Although, if you’re like me and you tend to nibble on all the bits of things in your tea blend I have to advise AGAINST doing so with the cute little pomelo cubes – even though they look like adorable little pomelo candies they are very bitter if you try to eat one.
I have so many teas, and certainly do not have a shortage of citrus options – but I still nabbed a small about of this blend for myself. If for no other reason than to see what it’s like cold brewed.
Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
