Thank you to VariaTEA for the sample!

I coldbrewed it this morning (1 tsp leaf, 500 mL cold water, 10 minutes) and really enjoyed it. I can confirm that that “America’s Birthday Cake” (American version) and “Birthday Cake” (Canadian version) taste exactly the same. The only difference is that the US version has star shaped sprinkles of red/white/blue while the Canadian version has normal rod-shaped sprinkles in a rainbow of colours.

Mmm I love the cakey, custard, birthday cake icing, and caramel flavours in this. Just so good.

Rooibos and I do not get along. That said, I do enjoy DT’s Birthday Cake every now and again, so I thought I’d give this a try since it’s supposedly quite similar. I believe this version has toffee added to it. I steeped some this morning and made an iced latte, and it was really tasty. The toffee flavor really stands out, even with the addition of dairy. The flavor of the rooibos doesn’t bother me too much, but, again, I attribute that to the dairy. It’s Birthday Cake but better, IMHO. The toffee adds a really lovely rich flavor, and the tea, as a result, tastes very decadent. I’m glad I finally got my hands on some of this, and I’ll be sporadically enjoying every cuppa.

Sipdown (212)!

Thank you VariaTEA for passing this along! I still find it weird that there’s a different version of Birthday Cake specific to Americans – is the Canadian version not good enough? It doesn’t hurt to try it though; as an employee I should know as much as possible about the different kinds of teas we sell.

Honestly though? When I brewed this one up I really couldn’t taste and real discernible difference between it and the Canadian version. It was still smooth, and very much like a creamy vanilla cupcake. If anything, I appreciate that this version has slightly less sprinkles because they don’t do much other than help the aesthetic of the tea leaf.

So smooth…

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

So when you’re sick, tea tastes off. Moreso than food. And since today I am feeling okay, I wasn’t sure if the tea would taste off or not. Consequently I decided to make a smoothie but opted to use something I had a lot of in case it got weird. Well, initially when I tried this, I basically just got the rooibos base but somehow that transitioned to a honey-like flavor drizzled over the mixes berries that make up a considerable part of this smoothie. So that’s fun.
