From DAVIDsTEA

Secret of the opera

When Pavarotti needed to ease a sore throat, he called for tea. Some say it was hot. Others swear it was cold. We think he probably drank it both ways. And that he would have loved this tisane. It’s packed with licorice, chamomile, rosehip, orange peel and peppermint, as well as delicious goji berries. Perfect hot or iced. Caffeine free. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Licorice root, chamomile, rosehips, orange peel, peppermint, goji berries.

I can’t taste the liquorice! I tried! Everybody can taste the liquorice except me? I can taste the peppermint and chamomile, and that’s it. I get this really weird aftertaste where it almost feels like my throat is closing in, but not… super weird, but delicious tea and definitely a go to if I’m sick or need to sleep.. and sick.

YUCK is the best word to describe this tea. The aftertaste – pure black licorice! It’s too bad, because the throat soothing properties of this tea are supposed to be amazing. I think I’ll stick to cough drops, thanks…

I mostly taste chamomile and light mint flavors.

Personally, I am not always fan of chamomile, I don’t enjoy the taste whether I have a cold or not. I think I’d rather it, if you tasted more of the mint than the chamomile, but I think in the end I’m just not a fan of those two ingredients mixed together.

Wouldn’t repurchase, I might give away the rest of my 26g.

First note! Yay!

Dry, I thought this tea smelled really good in the store. Kind of minty and refreshing. It kind of reminded me of Mother’s Little Helper in a way. Once I took some home and smelled it again, I wasn’t sure why I really liked it. I think the licorice was more noticeable for me at home…it was kind of just ‘meh’.

I usually just make my tea by leaving the tea bag in the whole time. I have never really controlled the temperature or timed how long I leave the bag in. With that being said, I don’t think I would leave the bag in the whole time with this one again. The licorice flavor was very strong. I can handle a little bit, but this was too much for me (…probably because I left the bag in).

Although I wasn’t sick when I drank this, I could tell that it would be kind of soothing to the throat…it had that sort of lozenge-y feel.

Overall not my favorite, but not my least favorite either. I would probably drink it again, but it won’t be a staple for me.

Way too much licorice for my liking! I originally drank it to sooth a sore throat, and while that worked, I’ve found ginger will also do the same thing for me and I like ginger teas far better. I’m not upset I tried it, but I won’t be getting any more.

While I have the first cup of the morning, Secret Weapon by DavidsTea, I am brewing a pot of this, hoping that it will help to soothe my throat and clear my head a bit.

The licorice is supposed to be good for the throat. The peppermint should open my sinuses.

Still the sore throat? Licorice is definitely good for that, as is honey & echinacea.
And don’t forget to gargle salt water 4X a day!
I hope it passes quickly :)

Oh yeah…sucking on a clove of garlic is also good for a sore throat, if it is caused by a virus or bacteria especially. I recommend only doing that before bed though, unless your staying home still. And sips of the juice of lacto cultured pickles, kimchi, sauerkraut, etc. Or even brags cider vinegar, although I’d delete that in a little water first.

Spencer

Thankfully, of everything you mentioned, I love licorice and garlic. Salt water gargle gets interesting, as the salt usually triggers a gag reflex. All the more reason to get it done faster, I suppose!

Thanks for the tips, Terri!

Remember to use non-iodized salt for the gargle!

Decided to crack this one out of my pack of organic DAVIDsTEA samplers because my throat is a little tickly today. However, the amount of licorice root in here makes me want to die. Damn. Somebody take this off my hands, I can’t deal with it.

I was sick at work so the gem next door at David’s brought me this tea as they frequently do, I thought it was awful. I’m not sure if it was my sickness clouding my brain because judging from reviews this is a good tea.. I couldn’t even finish a cup. I’ll have to try it again sometime I suppose.

this is my favourite tea at the moment! It might be because I have a cold but the sweet aftertaste of it is delicious. Can anyone recommend anything from davids tea that is similar to this? And it’s nice that you can over-brew(I accidentally went 1-2 minutes over) this and it still tastes fine! (I know you can’t do that with some teas. Whenever I drink this I feel as if my throat clears up, and it makes me feel much better!
Sidenote: this tea’s smell after it is brewed doesn’t smell as great as it does in a tin, but the taste of it changes your mind. It’s so delicious I can overlook the slightly weird smell of it :)
