“The leaves are quite a refreshing sight and scent, varying from light to dark green, with twists and untwists that give a bright fresh vegetal scent with a bit of sweetness. Steeping maintains that...” Read full tasting note
Green, unoxidized or semi-oxidized Darjeelings are hard to categorize. As we’ve said before, and will undoubtedly say again, green teas from Darjeeling are not the same as those of Japan and China, nor are they intended to be. For instance, this Puttabong autumnal green possesses a unique Darjeeling signature. It is twisted like the best of them; it is not 100% green, but has the coloration of a light oolong or what the Taiwanese call a “Bao Jong.” The aroma and flavor are redolent of lightly steamed greens or lima beans just beginning to soften. The vegetal sweetness is balanced by some nuttiness and astringency. This is a tea for relaxing and refreshment.
