DF Advent — Day 21

Clear and fresh, crisp pear was the dominant taste and did it deliver! mixed with the light flavor of chestnut cream. Hay-like and slightly earthy-floral white tea base carried the flavorings beautifully. I generally shy away from nutty teas but this was divine!

Sipdown (282)

I don’t like this. It tastes like chestnuts. So in that sense it might appeal to many. But for me that flavor just isn’t working. Like I can see how people would like this but I really do not. I am not even sure what exactly I hate but I hate it.

Adventageddon Day 21

This was the second in a pair of pear teas that I started my morning with and I was super excited to see it because I know I really adore this blend. It’s on the more delicate side, as is somewhat to be expected with white teas. However, despite having that softer side it’s still plenty flavourful in a more dessert-y type of way. Pear over chestnut, but both notes present and kind of candied in nature. I love that there’s this sort of creamy, fresh undertone from the white tea itself that kind of pulls back some of the sugared notes. The finish is really nutty – that’s where the chestnut shines the most.

I actually paired this teacup with some chocolate and chestnut flavoured bean cakes that had some sesame on top, which was delicious and kind of emphasized some of the sweeter, nutty flavours bringing a touch more balance to the namesake pear and chestnut notes.

Advent Calendar – Day 23

I wanted to love this one. A Pear tea sounded so fabulous. But I’m afraid I only liked it. Maybe it was too delicate for me to appreciate. I think maybe I expected more fruitiness but even with a little sweetener it was very light. Still it was a very good cup of tea. I just wish it had blown me away. Looking forward to trying it again since DD gave me her sample :)

I love pear teas, too. I find it does pair well with white tea. I haven’t tried this blend in particular, but I do really like Heirloom Bartlett Pear from Harney & Sons!

EmmaM

Thank you for that! I will have to try that one!

Let me know if you’d like me to send a sample! :)

I would love that! Thank you!

Day 23 Dammann Freres Advent calendar

I’m a few days behind. I liked this one. It had a delicate flavor. I could almost smell the pear while it brewed. With my bum nose, that means the scent must be rich. Or it was one of those rare moments when my sinuses open enough to let air go to the olfactory nerve. At any rate, I liked this tea. It was darker in the cup than most white teas I’ve had. Smooth, with a silky mouthfeel and no grassy taste or bitterness.
