Paul & Virginie Vert

This is another tea that Superanna brought me from the trip to Marseille, and is the first one we tried because Superanna prefers green and white teas over black teas and all the rest were black.

The aroma of the dry leaves was vanilla and caramel. I keep it light when I steep and this was sencha so 175F and three minutes tops.

I liked it a lot more than other reviewers here. I thought the green tea was present but nit harsh, and the primary taste was creamy vanilla and caramel for me.

I sent a sample to my best friend because it seemed like a tea she would really love. I did advise steeping it at 165 instead of 175 in case the green might be a bit much for her, but she texted me that afternoon and said that I was right that she would like – she really loved it. I think I really had her in mind when I put it on my wish list, because I thought it would be a wonderful tea for the two of us to share on those precious occasions when we can get together for tea time.

This tea is so far my least favorite from Damman Freres. It brewed up an unpleasant brownish color rather than a nice green. The flavor is ok but not great. No one fruit flavor is truly evident, but there is a melange of various flavors instead. I would like to tast the berries or the vanilla but I get no single strong flavor.

Dammann Advent Calendar, Day 17

And I’m caught up since I won’t be drinking the 18th (rooibos)! I couldn’t remember if I have had the black version of this tea, and I have. I enjoyed that one a fair amount, which makes sense. I mean, I love red fruits blends, and plus vanilla and caramel is great.

I would say that the green version is pretty good, but I prefer the black (not surprising). The biggest thing here is that I got the most intense flavor of marshmallow here. Tart and sweet red fruits, and then the aftertaste would bloom into marshmallow, moreso than any other tea I’ve ever tried. I actually really love that about it. What is it about the green vs. black that gets marshmallow? Maybe the green tones down the caramel notes and that’s what they turn into? I dunno, but it’s very tasty. Now I want to try the black version again just to make sure I don’t get marshmallow from that.

Dammann Frères Advent Calendar – December 17th

I admit, I’m always a tiny bit disappointed inside when it’s a green tea inside the little door. I generally prefer a black or even white tea as a base for flavoring. That being said, the green teas in this calendar so far have been fine, I’ve even liked some of them. :P Inside this sachet are large green leaves and pieces of dried strawberry. Dry scent is delicious strawberry and cream with vanilla!

Mm, the steeped tea smells like whipped cream and strawberries. The taste is actually a bit heavy on the base tea, which is a bit grassy. There’s a little bit of tart strawberry, but mostly I taste a lovely creamy vanilla flavor, which unfortunately does not go well with the grassy base. There’s a weird tart aftertaste as well that comes off as a bit artificial. I need to try the black version of this one!

Day 17.

Is this a new tea? I had to add it to the website. There is black version on steepster but not a green. Hopefully this is getting posted in the right spot.

On first smell of the dried tea, all I could think of was cherry cough syrup green tea. Not exactly appetizing.

The taste is much better. It is a smooth, creamy, green tea. The creaminess may be a bit of vanilla or a bit of caramel but I can’t quite place the source of the creaminess that I am feeling on my palate. I am getting some kind of fruity flavour which I attribute to cherry but I am a bit unsure. There is also a nice floral component to this tea. It is just very slightly sweet. There is a very tiny touch of astringency to the green tea at the end of the sip. The flavours of the tea feel a bit watered down.

I did not look up the description of this tea before I postd about it. So I could be way off taste. But that is what I am tasting.
