After a restless half-sleep, this is what I’m sipping now (cold) as I try and rouse myself. Mate, make your magic!

I left this in the fridge overnight, as I brewed it, took a few sips, and then realized it had mate in it. My daughter poached the majority of it for her thermos to take to school… “Mom, this is so much better than the Root Beer Float tea in the fridge.” “Yes honey, that’s because Root Beer Float is cold brewing and likely needs more time.” In typical teenage fashion, she shrugged her shoulders and ran off. She graciously left me one cup to try, so I could actually log and rate it here.

Cold, this is thick and slightly buttery. I taste the rooibos and lost the mate, except for at the end with a touch of dryness. There’s caramel in here too somewhere, although I’m only getting it hidden in my jaw, like a tartness I’m just shy of tasting, yet know that’s caramel giving me that mouth-watering, tingly reaction. A touch of Truvia really brings out the caramel flavors to a burnt toffee-ish taste. There’s something else in there that I can feel, however there’s zero taste to it. Adds to the faint dryness at the end.

A lovely cup, and a huge thanks to Dexter3657 for the sample!

This makes sense to me, that our respective children are both characters and tea lovers. :)

Great Canadian Traveling Tea Box

Dexter added this from a local tea company and it is YUMMY! Seriously…i just want to take the whole bag. That’s saying a lot too since it has mate in it, which i don’t like. I think this would make one hell of a kickass latte in the winter. It’s a creamy delicious treat. I can smell the almond as i’m drinking this one, but it doesn’t translate into that artificial tasty almond flavouring that i like. Instead it’s closer to a more real almond taste in my opinion. There isn’t enough chocolate on this, but the almond and caramel blend nicely to make a deliciously creamy tasty cup.

that goes amazingly well with the pumpkin spice muffins i just made… MMMMM

Nicole

Pumpkin breads are one of the things to look forward to autumn for!!

Final Sipdown of the night, #74.
This tea traveled from Dexter to the Great Canadian TTB (I think), then to Sil, & then to me!
It’s actually fairly tasty, especially with a little sweet added. The flavor of almond is especially nice, but after I took a few sips I was looking at the ingredients list & realized it has Mate in it. Not wanting to stay up past midnight tonight, so as a precaution I dumped the rest of it into a jar & stuck it in the fridge for the night.

As an aside, my ending teacount for the day would have been 342, but I receive a box of samples from a friend, adding 13 new teas to my cupboard, so I’m ending with one tea more than I started with today, LOL, 355. It would be nice to end this week with 300 teas, but I’ll also be happy to complete the goal set earlier today, which was to get through 100 sipdowns (only 25 to go in that case). Really, it doesn’t matter either way, as long as I enjoy the journey!

Dexter

LOL I love how tea gets arounnd. That makes me happy… :))

Terri HarpLady

Me too! It’s like our own little weird history, right?
I also love how the boxes get around. I sent one to KS that came to me from Nofar in Israel, that came to her from Verdant! :)
We’re a bunch of weirdos, LOL!

Sil

yeah.. it’s almost a given that if terri gives me a little extra of some teas, they go in your box and vice versa. Nicole gets a few things here and there, as does Tastybrew and then a few locals/west coasters heh

Terri HarpLady

That just makes it all the more fun!

HGTTB

This is a weird tea because it smells amazingly like ooey-gooey caramel and that’s the first taste that hits your lips. However, that caramel slowly morphs into a rich root beer flavor. Up until that point it is delicious but then the mate takes over and that luscious caramel/root beer becomes wet earth. It’s not mad but I just wish the mate was left out of the mix as that would make this one amazing cup of tea.

Fjellrev

That’s too bad they stuck mate in here. I don’t even see why they’d want to add that to such flavour profile.

VariaTEA

Exactly! Plus why combine a caffeine free base with a crazy caffeinated base. It seems counterproductive to me.

HGTTB

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, since the scent in the bag isn’t very strong. I’m getting just a hint of sour in both the smell and taste. I don’t know why, since nothing on the ingredient list would suggest it.

It’s definitely a lighter tasting tea than the last couple I’ve tried, maybe because of that, I’m underwhelmed slightly. Maybe I didn’t steep it long enough. Why do I taste fruitcake? Are you okay tastebuds? Anyways, it’s pleasant, and I’ll be happy to finish my cup.

Edit: When cooled, the flavour actually gets stronger, more toasty almond flavour. My like.

The name of this intrigued me. I love it when companies get inspired and creative and let their ideas flow. I had no idea what to expect with this brew. I believed it to be a robust rooibos with the almost coffee tobacco flavoring. Instead I was greeted with a silky smooth caramel treat. This blend has just the right amount of sweet and spice. I can hint at undertones of chai, allspice, and zest. I picture a golden strip in the desert with a cherry red mustang roaring down the road. I love this brew, and I usually don’t appreciate flavored tea. I will definitely add this to my stock in the future.

Sounds good. It does make you wonder what the name Academy Road means to the tea company. :D

Mmm tasty. I haven’t had many mate-rooibos blends before. It’s woody, earthy, sweet and toasty, with lots of amaretto and caramel. There’s something vaguely like sweet coffee on the finish, that’s surprisingly nice.

It’s nice to be able to change up my morning cuppa, and still get a bit of caffeine. I’ll have to try this with milk and sugar, too.

Thank you so much for this one a while back Dexter3657… but I guess it’s just Dexter now. :D I haven’t seen any rooibos and roasted yerba mate blends before, but it sounds like it would be a good combination. Add those little caramel cubes and a HINT of marzipan flavor, and it’s pretty magical. I see there should be cocoa nibs in the blend, but I didn’t see them or taste them. I think it would do better without anyway. It’s a fully thought-out blend. The caramel balances the rooibos and the rooibos with the roasted yerba mate is like a rustic autumn cup. Perfect outside reading with the cooler weather today. A good one! I’ll enjoy the last few teaspoons!

Thinking about changing it back – I feel naked.

Dexter

I like this tea too, it’s a good one from a local shop.

tea-sipper

no, you have the leaf. haha

Dexter

LOL that’s funny – hadn’t thought of it that way. :)))

TheTeaFairy

OMG, how could I not have noticed the nakedness???

How is it possible that I haven’t logged this?
I drank the last of it last night and just went to remove it from my cupboard and noticed that I’ve never logged it. How rude!!

This is one of my favorite from Cornelia Bean. It’s almond, it’s caramel, it’s something like burnt toffee, it’s oooey goooey sweet. Even better steeped with the MissB lower temp shorter steep trick.
If I’m ever allowed into Cornelia Bean again, I will pick up more of this – awesome desserty type tea.

boychik

Do you keep a spreadsheet for all the teas. I was removing but then realized what if I forget if I had that tea before. My memory is not that great anymore;)

Dexter

LOL I am NOT organized enough to to keep a spread sheet. I try really hard to make sure I’ve logged all the teas that I’ve tried. This is my “memory”, if it says “drank one time” then I’ve tried it – if it doesn’t, it’s either in my cupboard, or I haven’t tried it. So far that’s working for me.
What I need a spread sheet for is to keep track of which teas I’ve sent to which swap buddies, I’m always afraid of sending them something I’ve sent them before. I really need to get organized. :))

boychik

Good idea. I try to stick to ppl wish list and many times I add whatever I liked a lot. So I need 2 spreadsheets. You know my hubby is a programmer so his rule is to back up every 5 min. What if god forbid smth will happen to Steepster?

Dexter

What if god forbid smth will happen to Steepster? LOL Don’t even joke about it – if that happens I’m lost – what would I do without my Steepster buddies? No I don’t even want to think about it….

Anna

This link is very helpful, I think, since it’s all in one page, and searchable: http://steepster.com/clareborn/feed.rss

(And I keep lists of what I send to whom in my gmail drafts folder.)

Sil

dexter…that’s why you need to answer my FB message..

Dexter

Thanks Anna – that’s an awesome link. I didn’t know it existed. Love learning new stuff.

Dexter

FB message – OMG I haven’t logged into FB in at least 6 months….LOL right – I’m on that.

Sil

Anna….we has her naao!

Anna

We spun a webb of HAIRS.

Sil

I think we lost her…

Anna

I think she probably just doesn’t understand how FB works. Six months is like six years in FB time…

Sil

That’s true….

ifjuly

i don’t keep a spreadsheet, but whenever a new tea comes in i stick it in a gigunda google doc list (i started out sorting it by tea types, but i’ve gotten lazy about that), and if i ever wonder if i have something already i control-F for it. when i’ve tried it, i put a strikethrough over it, and when i really like it i put a star next to it (when i hate it, which is rare, i put a big X next to it). not as organized as a spreadsheet, but works for me and is faster.

ifjuly

and yeah, thanks so much for that Anna! super helpful. i hate trying to find a log of a tea i know i’ve logged before from the actual tea page, sifting through pages of reviews.

Anna

Haha, beware of the big X! And yeah, it’s really helpful – I wish I remembered who told me about it so I could give proper credit.

tea-sipper

Oh I must try this one soon that you sent a while back!
